The campaign:

Prior to the 2016 Presidential election, Jacob Seth Kern had run for the office of Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska three times, and in the US Senate primary as a Democrat in 2010.

If I am guessing with any accuracy, Kern's running-mate was his mother, Debra. Other son-mother tickets have included Daniel Steven Burkhardt/Georgia Loyce Burkhardt (Independent, 1996), Rick L. Rogers/Marilyn Jean Downs (Independent, 2012), and Johnson Immanuel Yuquimpo Li, Jr./Aida Nery Yuquimpo Li (Star Spangled Independent Party, 2016).

Much of Kern's online presence in the 2016 campaign has been deleted, but a Q&A during his 2015 mayoral campaign conducted by The Northern Light is still available, giving us some insight on his platform--

“Democrat.”

How many years of political experience do you have?

“I’ve ran for city mayor since, I’ve got six, six, six, six, seven, seven, eight, nine, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 15 about nine years of political experience campaigning. About 10 years of campaigning experience.”

What goals would you have if you became mayor?

“I would make my machines to give money back to the city.”

How do you plan on helping UAA?

“Giving you money, giving you money for my machines and doing anything you say by the popular vote.”

What machine are you talking about?

“Electricity machines, spaceships and cars. Just different electronic devices that I would come up with.”

Why are you running for mayor?

“To make my machines and give money back to the city and the residents.”

What are the top three issues you’d like to address while mayor?

“Just giving you money, that’s it, main priority, millions and billions and trillions of dollars to do by ballot and just popular vote and petitions, just mass signatures.”

The Kerns were registered as write-ins in the State of Alaska. Since both were residents of the same state there would have been a potential Constitutional issue of them assuming office in the event of their victory.

The campaign:

Johnson Immanuel Yuquimpo Li, Jr. of Federal Way, Wash. [Washington State trivia alert!!!] filed with the FEC late in the game, on Sept. 10, 2016. Under the name of the Star Spangled Banner Independent Party he was a registered write-in in three states, each with a different running-mate. In Alaska: Johnson Y. Li-- Minnesota: Aida Yuquimpo Li-- and in Washington: Daniel Dalison. All three VP nominees appeared to be relatives, but in what capacity was never spelled out although Aida seems to have been the mother of the Presidential candidate.

It looks as if Li was born in Manila, Philippines. In 2016 his VPs appeared to all be residents of Washington State.

If I am guessing with any accuracy, Li's running-mate in Minnesota was his mother, Aida. Other son-mother tickets have included Daniel Steven Burkhardt/Georgia Loyce Burkhardt (Independent, 1996), Rick L. Rogers/Marilyn Jean Downs (Independent, 2012), and Jacob Seth Kern/Debra Kay Kern (Non Affiliated, 2016).

Much of Li's online record of his 2016 campaign has vanished. Li ran for President in 2020 as well under the name Johnson Immanuel Lee Jr. and received a single write-in vote in Maryland. He also used the name Johnson Immanuel Siddhartha Lee Jr. on an additional Facebook page (although he also called J.I.S. Lee Jr. his "twin brother," confusing the issue and making me second guess my findings). He appointed Barbra Streisand as his VP in that election.

Some of J.I.S. Lee Jr.'s Facebook posts provides an idea of his political platform, although the reader might frequently have some questions regarding the backstories. Some of his allegations get pretty raw, here are samples of the milder ones--

According to Ancestry.com citing the City of Manila Civil Registrar, Johnson Yuquimpo Li was born in Manila Feb. 5, 1963 (and not with a twin) to Kim Seng Li and Aida Nery Yuquimpo, the latter who seems to be not murdered but currently living in King County, Wash. Tony Mabesa (1935-2019) was a well known Filipino director and actor.
