Paul E. Case

Paul E. Case

VP candidate for Independent (2016)

Running mate with nominee: Dale William Steffes (b. 1933)
Popular vote: 71 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

Dale Steffes, an oil forecaster and analyst as well as a perennial candidate for a variety of offices since at least 1974 from Houston, Tex., ran on a single-issue platform of energy independence. "Beginning with President Reagan," he told a reporter, "I have offered the National Energy Stability Plan (NESP) to every President that would eventually cause the U.S. to become self-sufficient in oil."

Steffes, originally a transplant from Kansas, also served as a deacon in his Catholic community and was a Korean War veteran. He had just run for the office of Houston Mayor in 2015. It appears he identified more with the Republicans than the Democrats.

His campaign was fairly low key. Running-mate Paul Case has eluded most documentation.

The Steffes/Case ticket earned 71 write-in votes in the standard bearer's home state of Texas, the only jurisdiction where they were registered.
