The campaign:

Although it is not all that unusual to see incarcerated criminals running for the White House, the ticket of Lacey Mark Sivak and his running-mate George Junior Porter might have been the first where both candidates were sitting in Death Row. Sivak was there for a 1981 murder, Porter for a 1988 homicide. Both of them were in prison in Idaho.

Porter had been a resident of Waitsburg, Wash. During his Aug. 1990 death sentence, the media reported that Porter was "unrepentant and boasting of new country-music recording contract ..."

In the event of their write-in victory there was the Constitutional problem of both candidates residing in the same state.

Sivak also ran for President in 2000 on a states' rights platform.

In a series of appeals 2011-2014, Sivak was given a determinate life sentence. Porter, who the State of Idaho said had an IQ of 76, was eventually discharged Dec. 5, 2013 after a long series of appeals.
