The campaign:
The conceptual 2016 Presidential ticket of Simon/Ryuko was the result of blending two anime franchises.
Simon, a teenage male, is the main character in the dystopian fantasy Gurren Lagann. The series began as an animated Japanese television series in 2007 and branched out into other media.
Two people associated with the project, Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashima, subsequently worked together on the animated series Kill la Kill. A revenge fantasy story, the main protagonist is 17 year-old schoolgirl Ryuko Matoi. The series was launched in Oct. 2013.
