The campaign (2016):

Some of the followers of Sen. Bernie Sanders refused to concede the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton and continued to campaign for the former candidate all the way to the general election. Sanders himself had somewhat tepidly and tardily endorsed Clinton.

Efforts were made by the "Sanderistas" to place Sanders on the ballot in a few states such as Vermont and Washington and deny either of the major candidates the 270 Electoral votes required to win. The idea was to give Sanders a third place finish so he would be one of the options for the US House when they would have to choose among the top three. And of course, the Bernie supporters reasoned, Sanders would be the only logical choice to break the gridlock.

As the Op Deny website wrote in their mission statement, "The Democratic party and Hillary Clinton cheated and stole the nomination from Bernie and the people who supported him. We do not want Hillary or Trump as President. Liars and cheaters (they both are) do not deserve to win. We support progressives and other parties. We believe more are needed in the future, to break the stranglehold of the 2 party system."

    Vermont is the ONLY state that we are guaranteed to win.
    In Vermont Bernie beat Hillary 86% to 14%.
    In Vermont Bernie got 115,000 votes, Hillary got 18,000 votes and Trump got 20,000 votes.
    Right now in Vermont many Bernie supporters will either be voting for Hillary because they are afraid of Trump, or they will not be voting at all.
    We MUST call them ALL and let them know that their votes both count, and they matter. The rest of the entire country NEEDS them to vote for Bernie and we MUST tell them.

In California, where the permission of the candidate was not required, Sanders was registered as a write-in with US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as his running-mate.

An idiosyncratic and controversial Democrat representing Hawaii, Gabbard resigned her position as DNC vice chair in order to endorse Sanders' Presidential campaign, becoming one of the earliest members of Congress to do so. At the same time she was running for re-election.

Gabbard's anti-Gay policies of the past made some progressives wary. Also her involvement with the Science of Identity Foundation, considered a toxic group by cultbusting organizations, was another concern to some of the Sanders' activists. Considered a "Blue Dog" Democrat with libertarian leanings, Gabbard's ability to get under the skin of her party leaders appealed to an element of Trump's supporters. She was a frequent talking head on Fox News offering critical views of President Obama's foreign policy.

The Sanders/Gabbard ticket earned 0.56% of the vote in California. Even though they were write-in candidates they still impressively outpolled the La Riva/Banks Peace and Freedom Party ticket who were on the printed ballot.

A faithless Democratic Party Elector in Minnesota cast his vote for the Sanders/Gabbard team, but was "dismissed" and "excused" by the Secretary of State.

The campaign (2020):

Douglas "Dutch" van Raam, a stagehand and landscaper from Martinez, Calif. filed with the FEC for President under the banner of the Free Soil Party on Feb. 5, 2020. Something of a perennial candidate he had run for President in 2008 and 2012, the US House in 2014, and the US Senate in 2016. His favorite President was "Martin Van Buren because he was of Dutch descent and a founder of the Free Soil Party."

van Raam's platform included legalizing marijuana as well as industrial and agricultural hemp. He also supported expanding and upgrading America's rail transportation. In addition, van Raam was concerned about the future of water resources.

On his Facebook page, van Raam frequently made reference to Tulsi Gabbard as his running-mate, starting in April 2020 after Sanders dropped out of the race. He also used terms like "sheeple," "fake news" and "drinking the Kool-Aid" to describe mainstream voters and their behavior.

Some Facebook post samples of his political viewpoints during campaign 2020 uses terms that are consistent with the pseudo-legal "sovereign citizens" movement--

The investor class created a berth or birth certificate so his "property" could be "insured" then put on a boat and "shipped". If the ship did not make it to port the "berth (or birth) certificates" of his "property" were how they got their insurance claims settled. So if you have a birth certificate instead of a record of living human being, then you are an economic slave owned by a Federal Reserve Banking Cartel that trades your certificates as future surities. The chains are mostly paper now but it's the same concept only slightly modified so that the stupid people do not figure it out. Lincoln gave us the 13th Amendment saying we could not be forced into slavery but we could always still consent to it ("by consent of the governed"). Then the 14th Amendment was unlawfully ratified saying you are born into "citizen-ship" (another "commercial" "shipping" term) before you even reach the age of consent. English is a slave language. Free humans are born free at home. Slaves are "delivered" (another commercial shipping term) in commerce, a.k.a. hospitals.

But one snafu is all it takes and she is getting slammed for going between what i said in this post by using three capital letters and that damned hashtag to piss people off.

"If you say, "Black lives matter." then you believe in equity and know how to spell in proper English. If you say, "BLACK LIVES MATTER" then you only promote a fictitious business name that is linked to terrorist bullshit and are only in it for the money. It's simple linguistics. Learn to read. Anything spelled in all capital letters is dead fake. It's not English as English has zero allowance for all capital letters (which is why it will never be our national language) so it is considered to be "DOG LATIN" which may look like English words but spelled LIKE LATIN WORDS in all capital letters.
Vote Free Soil Party 2020 by writing out your candidate's name the way their mother spelled it. Do not check a box with a candidate's name in all capital letters next to it where the consent to the dead entity takes presidence over the living and implies your consent that you are dependent on them to do everything include spell for you. That puts you under their spell. It's witchcraft."

For her part, Gabbard had started her campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination in Jan. 2019. On Mar. 2020 she dropped out of the running and endorsed Joe Biden.

Her Presidential campaign was a rocky one, and it seems most of her ire was aimed at the Democratic Party establishment rather than the Republicans. She sought to sue Hillary Clinton when the latter suggested Gabbard was an unwitting tool of the Russians. She also went after Google for suspending her advertising account. Gabbard's status as an outsider was confirmed when she was excluded from several DNC events, including not being invited to the national convention even though she had won a delegate.

Another factor that did not endear her to most Democrats was her lone "present" vote during the first Trump impeachment vote in Dec. 2019.

Gabbard's endorsements and co-endorsements reflect the unusual mixture of her political views. Included among her supporters: Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Sean Ono Lennon, and David Duke. Gabbard rejected Duke's support in no uncertain terms.

The van Ramm/Gabbard ticket did not appear to be registered as write-ins in any state.

The campaign:

In keeping with what was becoming a tradition of nominating ineligible candidates, the Socialist Workers Party in 2012 selected James E. Harris with under-35 years of age Maura DeLuca as his running-mate. Alyson Kennedy, the 2008 VP nominee, was called in to act as the stand-in VP in a half dozen instances.

The SWP appeared to be in sort of a cryogenic holding pattern, not helped by the growing number of ex-members who charged the Party with using cultish methods of manipulation over their dedicated followers.

DeLuca, who moved to Lincoln, Neb. in early 2012, left her temporary job at Kawasaki Motors in order to campaign. A co-worker there had supplied her with an electioneering quote that does indeed capture the essence of the SWP: "Every four years the bus driver changes, but we need to change the whole road we're on." She went on a national tour, including visiting a labor strike in Longview, Wash., probably one of the few candidates on a Presidential ticket to ever show up in that city. On the same trip she visited a strike in Kent, Wash.

Washington has been a solid blue state in every Presidential election since 1988 and has voted for Democrats for Governor since 1984. As a result, broadly speaking, this means the Democrats take this state for granted in the general Presidential election and the Republicans write us off as a waste of energy. So when any member of a national ticket visits us at all that becomes big news.

"I'm a factory worker. I have worked in union and nonunion plants and have seen that our strength comes when we organize and come together, women and men fighting shoulder to shoulder, against speedup, cuts in wages, longer hours, whatever," DeLuca was quoted in The Militant. Although Washington is considered blue, labor unions have been watching their political clout diminish in rural counties and the political division here is now urban/rural = blue/red. This is a microcosm of what we have seen happen across the country and by 2012 that shift was well underway. So the SWP had their work cut out for them. But instead of turning to the SWP, working class blue collar rural counties like mine (logging, Pacific Ocean fishing, cranberries, oysters) who voted for McGovern in 1972, Carter in 1980 and didn't have a single Republican in county public office for the second half of the 20th century, are now deep Red, and I don't mean May Day Red but Republican Red.

The Harris/DeLuca ticket won 1,796 popular votes out of the 4,120 cast for the Party as whole (the lowest in their Electoral history). They were on the ballot in Minnesota (0.04%) and New Jersey (0.02%), and were write-ins for Connecticut. Shortly after the election DeLuca relocated to Omaha, Neb. and within a few months was running for Mayor.

The campaign (2012):

It would be tempting to call Vermin Supreme a true eccentric, except for the fact he has made his persona a commercial commodity using a sophisticated sense of marketing and offers a large catalog of merchandise as well as paid memberships to a Vermin Supreme Fan Club. An astute absurdist performance artist and sharply hilarious political satirist, yes. But eccentric, no, not like Gene Amondson of the Prohibition Party or Merrill Keith Riddick of the Magneto-hydrodynamics-Puritan Epic-Prohibition Party, Independent Rachelle OneFamily Miller, or Independent Republican Saint Michael Jesus the Archangel.

In fact, you could say Vermin is not eccentric at all but instead a real Norm, Norman Scott Taylor that is, his real name before he said he legally changed it to Vermin Love Supreme at some point in the 1990s as his brand began to grow.

Supreme has a long history of making political statements via performance art. As a student at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1981, he sealed himself inside a glass cage with barbed wire for over 7 hours while wearing a gas mask and camo as a way to protest U.S. policy in El Salvador. In a statement to a reporter, he set a thesis for the rest of his activist career, "I did it for the reaction, to remind people, to make people think ... the artist has a definite role to make people look at the world differently."

Supreme is too engaged in the community for me to consider him an eccentric, and given his understanding of how social conditioning works in politics I will instead label him a "Mockiavellian." As an admirer of Machiavelli, I mean that as a compliment.

The earliest mention I find of the name "Vermin Supreme" is in 1985 when he was identified by a Baltimore newspaper as the manager of the Fabulous Galaxy Lounge, a venue noted for sometimes offbeat entertainment. The earliest mention of Vermin wearing an upended boot as headgear that showed up in my search was in 1992 when he ran for "US Mayor." Prior to that he was usually described in the press as wearing a tam o' shanter.

By 2011 he was considered a surrealist perennial candidate national figure and made the news that year when he sang at a debate and then glitterbombed fellow Presidential candidate Randall Terry.

On Groundhog Day, 2012 Supreme "debated" Jimmy McMillan, who was engaged in running for President in the Republican primaries while Supreme was in the Democratic. Later as both of their attempts within the major parties fizzled, they continued to campaign in their own third parties (McMillan's being the Rent is Too Damn High Party). On Aug. 25 Supreme announced the formation of the Free Pony Party. A pact was made with McMillan that they would serve as the running-mate for the other, a "double-meme team," as Supreme put it.

However, McMillan's role as a Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate came to an end on Sept. 13, 2012 when he declared he was suspending his campaign in order to concentrate on running for Mayor of New York in 2013. In the process he also endorsed Obama--

President Barack Obama messed up. Republican Party had a chance to beat him ... But when the Republican Party decided to choose Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney said he don’t support the very poor. How can I support him? So, even though Barack Obama don’t know what he’s doing, I have no choice but to vote for Barack Obama to keep the Republican Party out.

Since 2012 Supreme has gravitated to the Libertarian Party.

The campaign (2016):

"White Lightning IIIV" from the Pittsburgh area announced his run for the Presidency on Twitter in late Aug. 2015 and provided photo shots of his FEC registration. Although not the official candidate of the real Guns and Dope Party (who promote "Everybody for President") White Lightning ran under their banner.

On the website RAWillumination.net (inspired in art by the late Robert Anton Wilson, hence RAW), White Lightning was sent some interview questions and chose to answer in one long soliloquy. The strong language bleeps are mine--

"First off let me say thanks and I also would like to point out (you can put this in your article if you want) that I will answer some questions with a sort of odd twist that pertains to my f****d up persona."

"I White Lightning, have spent a musical career basically pretending to be a human thats is comprised of all the social constructions that have been devised by americans in the form of racism, religion-based discrimination, and all around f****d up beliefs. The whole goal of White Lightning was to create a character so absurd yet would also make the listener take a good look and evaluation of their own life. I decided to run for president initially because I thought it could be a good album topic. However, the reason now is to show that even a candidate running under a party named "guns and dope party" has far better ideas than any other s***wad who actually has a chance of winning. Yes Hillary Donald and Jeb, I'm talking to you. I now run to promote the great ideas of my party and spread awareness that congress in fact is turning into a piece of s**t. Though I initially stated my album was the inspiration to me running, I honestly couldn't care less how the sales do. White Lightning albums are literally based after what I thought cancer sounds like. The new motive is to fall second behind deez nuts in write ins as well as achieve my ultimate goal, start a Twitter war with at least one major f****r in congress. It's harder than you'd think. The guns and dope party literally is the most badass political party ever conceived. Its literally like if Abe Lincoln and Chuck Norris had the best sex of their lives and conceived a beautiful and promise filled political party that basically talks about how awesome ostriches and dope are. The number one thing that I actually and seriously agree with (to a limit if we are being serious) is the idea that people really should be able to do whatever the F**k they want. I mean this not in a sense where I think people should be allowed to rape and murder people, but I believe that is people want to be gay, have abortions, smoke some dope, shoot off a gun(however, I will actually admit I believe that the gun registration process is a bit to s****y and easy in this country) marry a cat, or be a retard, we really should just f*****g let them. I get really ticked off at issues with religious intervention because it's just a whole waste that only delays our progress as a society. Most of the bible preaching republican f**k boys haven't even read the damn book nor have they read or realized it's an out of date, sex and incest filled, s****y user of symbolism, and all around boring book. I'm also a registered Dudist Priest so if you want to join a religioun that promotes bowling, white Russian cocktails, and doing whatever the F**k you want, join Dudeism. It's also free. I have problems with both democrats and republicans, but  the only candidate I see having any chance at being fairly decent is Joe Biden because he's like that f*****g crazy uncle that is secretly a badass. And he's not even running yet. On the heels of White Lightning's statement was a brief missive from another musician who called himself Big Ball Bumpty--

"Hey Tom, It's the triple B!  You mentioned me on your latest post.  Me and White Lightning go WAAYYYY BACK (Proof: Build-a-Bear Workshop (ft. White Lightning), by BigBallBumpty).  We basically invented a subgenre of hip hop and f**k.  If his answer to your questions were too weird (idk), ask me or some s**t.  I plan to be vice president under his position.  My submission has been confirmed.  AMA I guess.  We do indeed have motives."

In late Sept. early Oct. 2016 the Guns and Dope Party issued an official Party declaration--

"The GADP does not endorse any candidate claiming to run as the official GADP candidate. There is no official GADP candidate, except perhaps occasionally when Olga inexplicably decides to campaign for President of Multiverse. Despite the impressive detailed descriptions of plausible interstellar propulsion systems and the outrageous uniforms, we suspect she is not serious, but no one has actually asked."

Shortly before the election, White Lightning stepped into the same venue and made a correction--

"I would just like to discredit a previous interview with Big Ball Bumpty about him being my VP. BBB is a registered sex offender and necrophiliac. He is also a sellout. I actually plan on making Vermin Supreme my VP. I am also pleased to announce that through your support, we have gone up 0.001% in the polls. It's a good start. Thanks again!

The campaign:

By 2012 New York's flamboyant perennial candidate Jimmy McMillan and his Rent is Too Damn High Party was already well known across the nation. Although famous as the founder of the RITDH Party, McMillan was in fact registered as a Democrat and switched his registration in Oct. 2010 to the Republican Party in order to run in their 2012 primaries. He filed with the FEC in Feb. 2011 and did campaign as part of a major party but in the end did not participate in Republican debates or appear on any ballots.

When asked in 2011 why he was running for President and not Mayor of NYC, McMillan answered--

I thought about that, but I'm more worried about the information. Running for President now...they're not talking about the issues. I need to keep these issues at the forefront. I might just run for mayor, but I want Barack Obama to maintain the Presidency. I just want to shut these Republicans down—you're scaring the hell out of everybody! I want a young Republican to come up and run with the issues to get the country on the right track. I'm like a rabbit in a marathon, I want to get in here to set the pace. If the President can't keep up with me, he's going to lose. I'll say to him like I said it on national television, Barack Obama, I'll run for President of the United States. I have issues, they don't. You want to talk about Politics. The country is in a 14 trillion dollar debt and you're raising the debt ceiling and everyone's out of a job. Jimmy McMillan is over here, Barack Obama here, I'm talking How To Fix, he's talking Politics. I'm trying to get into the presidential debate, that's my uphill battle.

McMillan addressed the perception that the Rent is Too Damn High Party was a single-issue entity concerned only with affordable housing--

The office of the president is supposed to be bi-partisan. Some people are for issues like birth control and abortion and some people are not. You can’t choose sides. When it comes to abortion and gay marriage this is a bi-partisan conversation. The president of the United States should not take a position on these issues.

As president you have to be focused on economic issues. You should be worried about the American people having a roof over their head, food on the table and money in their pockets. How are they going to survive when there are no jobs? How am I going to help create new businesses?

Jimmy McMillan is not a skit from Saturday Night Live or Comedy Central. I don’t have a lot of money. I am running this campaign with money I get from retirement, no one is giving me any money. I am speaking from a perspective no one else can see.

I was caught in a rainstorm last week. I was sitting in my car watching the rain fall on my windshield. I see rain different from you. I see the rain as the tears from the people who are suffering and I need to help them throughout these economic crises. I am here to help those who are hurting.

On Groundhog Day, 2012 McMillan "debated" performance artist Vermin Supreme, who was engaged in running for President in the Democratic primaries. Later as both of their attempts within the major parties fizzled, they continued to campaign in their own third parties. On Aug. 25 Supreme announced the formation of the Free Pony Party. A pact was made with McMillan that they would serve as the running-mate for the other, a "double-meme team," as Supreme put it.

However, McMillan's role as a Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate came to an end on Sept. 13, 2012 when he declared he was suspending his campaign in order to concentrate on running for Mayor of New York in 2013. In the process he also endorsed Obama-- 

President Barack Obama messed up. Republican Party had a chance to beat him ... But when the Republican Party decided to choose Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney said he don’t support the very poor. How can I support him? So, even though Barack Obama don’t know what he’s doing, I have no choice but to vote for Barack Obama to keep the Republican Party out.
