The campaign:
Sylvester J. Pettway of Bridgeport, Conn. registered as a write-in candidate for President in his home state and in Maryland. Maudery Collins, also from Bridgeport was his running-mate. In Maryland, Pettway registered as write-in without a running-mate. This is another stealth campaign.
In the event of their victory there would have been a problem according to the Constitution since they were both residents of the same state. On Election Day they earned a single vote from Connecticut and zero from Maryland.
In 2002 Pettway ran for Governor of Connecticut and in 2007 for Mayor of Bridgeport, in both cases as an independent write-in. He also filed with the FEC for President as an independent in 2008.
