Daniel D. Robbins

Daniel D. Robbins, September 14, 1959? (Roseburg, Oregon) -

VP candidate for Independent (aka APV Party) (2016, 2020)

Running mate with nominee (2016,2020): Mark Clayton Pendleton (b. 1954)
Popular vote (2016, 2020): ? (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign (2016):

Mark Pendleton of Salt Lake City had filed with the FEC on Jan. 1, 2012 as an Independent for President. No sign of a running-mate in that one or that he made any ballot or was a registered write-in although Pendleton later asserted he "got over a 1000 write-ins and if the Lord is willing a[n]d tarries I will be on the 2016 ballot." At the end of that year, Dec. 27, 2012, he filed again as an Independent for the 2016 election. His running-mate was Daniel Robbins, place of residence not supplied but circumstantial evidence points to Utah as well.

His 2012 website included an autobiography--

I was born 1 July 1954 to Leon Roy and Barbara May Pendleton. The forth of four children we lived for most of my life in Richmond, CA. My siblings are Leon Roy, Gary F. and Alan C. My early childhood I went to school to Lincoln Elementary in Richmond, CA, Roosevelt Jr. High School in Richmond, CA. My experience in high school was split first attending John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond and finishing at Harry Ells High School also in Richmond, CA.

My hobbies included various science and math related activities as well as martial arts. Hobbies included, among other things, rocketry, aeronautics, light and optics (lasers and telescopes). I was an avid swimmer and played various sports. I took a Brown Belt in Judo and and an Orange Belt (instructor's rating) in Bok Fu.I also studied Kung Fu (Jeet Kun Do). I am not much of a sports spectator/fan, but do enjoy participating. I have started several businesses one of which is the focus of the "I Want To Buy Your Vote!"

I tutored/taught Chemistry and Physics at the high school from which I had graduated for a while. I worked as custodian at the Watergate Apartment Complex (West coast counterpart of that during the Nixon era) for a year before returning back to school at Contra Costa Community College in San Pablo, CA where I began my studies in Business Administration. It was during my tenure there where my religious experience ensued.

My work experience spans 40 plus years, 24 plus of those include teaching

I became a child of God on 4 August 1974. I subsequently completed studies at Contra Costa Community College and went to begin my studies for the ministry at California Baptist University (then CBC) in 1975 after being Licensed to Preached by Clinton Avenue Baptist Church. During my tenure at CBU (CBC) I became the Interim Pastor of West Whittier Baptist Church in Whittier California. I stayed there for 9 months and moved back to the Bay Area to begin studies at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (GGBTS). I graduated twice with the M.Div (1980) and the Th.M. (1983). Between 1981 and 1982 I served as the Minister of Youth and Evangelism at the 1st Baptist Church of Granger (West Valley Baptist Church 3831 S. 2700 West). Being led back to Mill Valley to complete studies in Comparative Theology an Philosophy I served on numerous evangelism teams in various states.

Upon graduation I left GGBTS and returned to Salt Lake City, Utah where I began a work in Rose Park, UT. I was the keynote speaker at various workshops and in various consultative capacities for the subsequent 26 years. I have written numerous books on a variety of theological topics.

On 10 January 1987 I married Donna M. Sanchez and became an instant father with the union with Donna who had 4 children Gale, Nicole, Rudy, and Ricky John, and later the arrival of David E. (1988) and Nina M. (1989). We now boast 20 PLUS  grandchildren.

I filed for bankruptcy in the early 1990s due to extenuating circumstances that ensued when trying to assist one of my stepchildren. In short he was arrested and tried for a felony. I borrowed quite a sum of money from those Payday loan pirates. For a full discussion you may contact me through email at mark.pendleton84103@gmail.com. In 2010 I applied for un-employment, unsuccessfully, because I had been a teacher. The state in which I was residing at the time categorized Substitute Teachers in the same class as Full Time Teachers. The result that although as a Sub I was temporary labor the State Legislature equated temporary labor for education the same as full-time contracted labor and all I earned was not qualified and therefore I could not apply for compensation . . . they wouldn't even qualify me for Food Stamps. All this even though I had no income over the summer. The details of this are available upon request. But the long and short of it all is I know what it is like to be denied government assistance, what it is like to be in need. What it is to have absolutely nothing as well as to be in affluence. These experience qualify me in all areas of the social economic structure and help me to identify on all levels with Americans.

Why I am I telling you all this and willing to expose myself completely to you. There are three reasons. The first is that I don't want to put on any airs and I don't have anything to hide. This brings us to the second reason and that being that as I gain notoriety and influence I want to intercept any of my opponents in trying to use my past against me in trying to say that I am hiding something. As I said, I want to be as transparent as possible and I am working to that end. The third reason, and perhaps the most important of which is so that you know that I am truly from the ranks of ALL America. I, probably, am the only candidate that can personally identify with every socio-economic class in the United States. I know what it is like to be in want as I do to know what it is like to have plenty. With this as part of my resume you know that I have the best knowledge, gained through experience, to be the best representative for the American people. My candidacy is about EMPOWERING the American people, not about centralizing that power in the hands of elected representatives. If I am elected I am going to expect Americans to assist in the governance of America. John F. Kennedy said on numerous occasions: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can dio for your country."  Well, if elected, that will be the focus of my administration, getting you involved in the running of YOUR country. Taking it back from the politicians and getting it on the right tract. I will seek to gain your approval and most importantly your assistance in getting through Congress the necessary things that will make this country better and great. I know that if elected, Congress is going to fight me every step of the way because I will be working to minimizing its power and getting it back to being what it is SUPPOSE to be . . . your representative and not your dictators.

In 2002 I began feeling the pulling of Holy Spirit in the direction of evangelism again and began interpreting the calling I was receiving. It has blossomed into what is now known as Paradigm Ministries International which is a totally self-sufficient ministry dedicated to presenting a clear and positive message of Jesus Christ. The ministry is dedicated to giving and not receiving and is therefore committed to accomplishing the commission thoroughly without accepting or asking for gifts and/or contribution of any kind.

As for political aspirations I became disenchanted with what was going on in our country. Especially with the current administration. I approached Mr. Obama with a letter written in 2009 explaining that I could fix the problem with the economy. It was either ignored, rejected, or simply not even looked at. I also presented this information with several news and media providers and met the same response. To me this said that those who had were really not interested in finding a solution to the economic woes of America and so I decided to do something about it. I believe in America and know that my initial program will fix the economy. But that is only the beginning. I want to fix the entire country, specifically the federal government. My platform reflects this and I am asking the American people to take a chance on themselves and America and open themselves to something other than Party Politics. Remember, this country was founded by Patriots and NOT BY Career Politicians. If you are of the mistaken impression that the political structure is not viewed as a career then just consider your situation if you are NOT a business owner. Question: "How do you AS AN EMPLOYEE get a raise?" Now consider how Congress ANNUALLY votes ITSELF a raise. If I am not mistaken don't the elected reresentatives WORK FOR US! That is one of the things I, with YOUR help hope to rectify when elected.

I am seeking only one term and hope to exercise the full authority and support of the American people in favor of America.

Much of the online presence of the Pendleton 2016 campaign has eluded archiving. There is a reference to his "APV Party" but the meaning of the acronym remains mysterious [not to be confused with the AVP, Approval Voting Party]. His Facebook page during that era seemed more interested in alternative currencies and complicated get-rich schemes than in electioneering--

Pendleton, who at the time was working at Paradigm Ministries International, had a very hard to follow financing plan with the hook "I want to buy your vote" and "Contribute without contributing."

It appears the Pendleton/Robbins ticket was not to be found on any ballot, nor did they seem to be registered as write-ins in any state.

The campaign (2020):

Pendleton and Robbins officially announced their 2020 Presidential campaign on Nov. 5, 2019.

Robbins, who gave himself the label of "Libertarian," provided an autobiography on the campaign webpage--

My name is Daniel D. Robbins. Born in Roseburg, Oregon and raised in a nearby small logging town, I grew up with the quality influence and moral code of my Grandmother and Grandfather. My grandparents were adults during the depression and helped my mother raise me by old west rules of respect for each other and a sense of pride in hard work and a job well done.

Everybody knew my grandparents and they knew our neighbors. Knowing each other in a small town and knowing all the neighbor kids didn't stop the occasional switch to the backside from my friends mom if I got out of line and another switch waiting when I got home. I learned what was right and what was wrong from my grandparents and a small town full of honest, hard working, and proud people. Small town living gave me a sense of responsibility for myself and my actions as well as a sense of responsibility for helping my neighbors when they needed a helping hand.

My mother was a single mom raising 3 kids by the time I was 4 years old. Life was hard, but my mother worked hard to put food on the table and Grandma and Grandpa helped where they could. We were poor enough that sometimes we only had enough for one meal a day. But that was the incentive. Work and be part of the community or go hungry. The fact that we didn't starve is testament to how poverty wasn't so bad without the government handouts.  Those were tough times, but they made strong people and strong communities.

I went to a small High School and graduated with Thirty-six Seniors. We were all pretty much poor, but it never mattered to most of us.  We had no idea what racism was and the 2 adopted North Korean kids in my nearly all white country school never were considered anything else other than classmates and friends. The idea that their skin color meant anything was foreign to us. The things that were important were simple. Learn your math and how to read and write. A strong sense of sports and sportsmanship were next on that list. Teachers doubled as coaches and were dedicated to the kids, not to a union. Money was in short supply for our schools, but it was spent on a library full  of books, not on resource officers and 3 meals a day for the underprivileged. We had milk and the option of a cafeteria lunch. Parents had to be responsible for taking care of their children not the State.

I got my first job during the summer when I was 6 years old. I had to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and was in the bean fields by 6 o'clock helping my mother pick string beans until 5 o'clock in the evening. I soon was picking cherries and apples on my own and did so until I left home at 17 years old. When I was 14 I used an axe to clear trees on ranches, worked on a chicken farm cleaning the chicken dropping from the coups, stretched fences, and bucked hay from sun up until sun down. I even pumped gas for free only getting paid with tips from the customers. Hard work was the recipe for success and the idea that someone owed me a living was never a thought.

I volunteered for the Air Force within a few days after turning 17 years old. For me, that was the only way I could go to college. I was trained as a mechanic  and later helped train officers in the survival school that was just off base. The Air Force is where I learned about racism and bigotry. I found out very quickly that I was both a racist and a bigot specifically because I was white. I was able to make some really great friends of all races and fell in love with a beautiful young woman, but had to break it off because her family didn't approve of me being white. Hard lessons, but valuable, and I never became so cynical that I couldn't see beyond race and concentrate on the character of the individual. I am proud to say I continue to hold these values as core values in my life today.

I went to college my first year in Chicago. It was a small Liberal Arts College and a Seminary. I learned so much from that environment and learned firsthand how harsh people can be in the big city. I would have stayed, but I contracted Hepatitis and dropped out until I started up again at Boise State University.

I have continued my education in several disciplines of Economics and Finance. I land firmly on the side of Austrian and Chicago Economics and believe vehemently that Keynesian Economics and Central Banks such as the Federal Reserve have destroyed the dollar and the economic powerhouse that used to be the United States. They are the only reason it now requires both parents to work to raise a family. The rest of the destruction of the family unit has be decimated by government handouts and nanny state regulations and laws.

I have worked hard my whole life and can say that I have been successful. I started a computer repair business twenty five years ago and although I am mostly retired from it, I have customers that won't go anywhere else. I have never been rich, but I feel as though I could have been if that had have been what I dedicated my life to.  But, I am also a proud husband and a father to 7 wonderful children. I am proud of them and continue to hope for their continued health, happiness, and success.

I am a dedicated patriot to these United States of America. I am a strict Constitutionalist and believe that it is more relevant today than when it was first written. I believe the size of Federal Government and the power it now has taken is now the greatest threat to the liberty and freedom of all Americans. We are being destroyed from within and it needs to change. I believe in "We the People..." and I think we need to change the direction we are moving in. I believe we can make the United States strong by making the individual strong and independent. We must take responsibility for ourselves and our actions. We must reach out and become a nation of neighbors. We depend on the government to take care of us and we now have this sense of entitlement that just because we breathe we deserve to be taken care of. Well, I think we all need to carry our own weight and help only those that can't. I believe that a true patriot is a person that is willing to stand up to the oppressive government and just say no.

We have a lot of work to do. But, I believe it is a noble task and I believe it only takes a few voices that speak the truth to start a movement that can spread from shore to shore and get this nation back on track using the best of the values from our history to become the greatest nation on earth once again.

The Pendleton/Robbins platform included--
-Opposed to using the Constitution to enforce the rights of special groups, particularly in the case of same sex marriage. "Donald Trump of the current Administration is purposed to make America great again. A position with which I whole heartily agree. Too long has the needs of the country gone the way of self-seeking interest groups or complacent politician rather than in the best interests of the Country. If this Country is to be Great again it is going to have to treat the Constitution as the guide in which it was intended and not as the floor mat the Federal Government has made it."
-Create a Constitutional amendment protecting the right to privacy.
-Repeal Obamacare.
-Curb the influence of "Big-Pharma."
-Regulate credit collecting agencies.
-"The Tax Code is too complicated and cumbersome and basically forces the average American to look outside of their own abilities and resources to complete, therefor I am proposing the re-structuring of the Code completely and establishing a flat tax of 0% for individuals making under $25,000.00; 10% for ALL individuals at $25,000.00 and above (5% may be returned because of charitable contribution), and 15% business and corporate (with up to 5% reclaimable due to charitable contributions). and for dismantling of the IRS superstructure as currently operating. This constitutes a total elimination of all superfluous taxes such as the inheritance tax (which essentially is double taxation) and estate tax."
-Eradicate diplomatic immunity.
-End dependence on fossil fuels.
-Dissolve the US Dept. of Education.
-Regulate the insurance industry.
-Reduce Federal salaries by 25%
-Term limits for US House and Senate.
-Federal judicial positions should be elected and not appointed for life.
-"NO MORE NUMBERS GAMES AMERICAN POLITICAL STRUCTURE IS NOTHING MORE THAN A NUMBERS RACKET (PROPAGANDA) AND THAT RACKET IS SYSTEMATICALLY USED TO deceive THE AMERICAN PEOPLE."
-Expand the powers of Homeland Security.
-Pro life on abortion.

Once again, it appears the Pendleton/Robbins ticket was not to be found on any ballot, nor did they seem to be registered as write-ins in any state. If Robbins was indeed a resident of Utah, there might have been a Constitutional roadblock since both candidates were residents of the same state.

PNW trivia alert! Previous third party VPs Joseph Lane (1801-1881) Constitutional Democratic Party 1860, and Frank Lyle Varnum (1916-2013) American Party 1980, both lived and died in the Roseburg, Oregon area in their later years, birthplace of Robbins.

Frank Lyle Varnum

Frank Lyle Varnum, October 6, 1916 (Pasadena, Calif.) - January 12, 2013 (Roseburg, Ore.)

VP candidate for American Party (1980)

Running mate with nominee: Percy L. Greaves Jr. (1906-1984)
Popular vote: 6,647 (0.01%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

Percy Greaves (pronounced Graves) was nominated by the American Party after 16 ballots. Retired airline pilot Frank Varnum was selected as his running mate. The New York Times reported that a party spokesman "said that Mr. Greaves had won in a close battle by 'progressive' party members against a faction representing the its old 'reactionary and redneck' image."

Greaves was a Republican turned Libertarian Party and only recently turned American Party author specializing in free market capitalism and Pearl Harbor attack historical revisionism. Varnum, a member of the John Birch Society and possibly the only person in America with a toothbrush mustache in 1980, appeared to balance the ticket as part of the more traditional wing of the American Party.

Greaves' moderate stance on abortion failed to pass the litmus test for the American Party members in Minnesota and Kansas. The former state ran a slate of unpledged Electors, and the latter state ran an entirely different ticket of Frank W. Shelton and Marian Ruck Jackson.

The American Party in 1980 stressed complicated economic issues more than hot button social topics, and it failed to excite the base. Plus, the Reagan Republicans had co-opted a lot of the John Birch Society-inspired platform used by the American Party over the years, except the major party simply changed the wording to be more acceptable to mainstream voters and had a famous Hollywood actor read the script. 1980 just was not going to be a good year for the American Party.

On Election Day the American Party ticket trailed far behind their splinter-party rival, the American Independent Party. In fact  even the combined vote of the Kansas and Minnesota American Party insurgents outpolled the Greaves/Varnum ticket.

On the ballot in five states and certified write-ins in a couple others, they had their strongest results in Indiana 0.21%, Delaware 0.17%, and Utah 0.16%.

Greaves died of cancer on Aug. 13, 1984, which meant that in the event they had been elected Varnum would have become President in the last year of the term.

Election history:
1966 - Long Beach (Calif.) City Council (Nonpartisan) - primary - defeated

Other occupations: race car driver, orchardist, realtor, US military flight instructor, airline pilot

Buried: Coles Valley Cemetery (Coles Valley, Ore.)

Notes:

Theodora Nathalia Nathan

Theodora Nathalia Nathan, February 9, 1923 (New York, NY) – March 20, 2014 (Eugene, Or.)

VP candidate for Libertarian Party (1972)

Running mate with nominee: John Hospers (1918-2011)
Popular vote: 3,674 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 1/538

The campaign:

A new national political party emerged in the 1972 Presidential election. Even though they were only on the ballot in two states, Colorado where the Party had been created and Washington (and official write-ins in four others), they would go on to become America's largest third party. I recall reading the 1972 Washington State Voters Pamphlet trying to figure out this unusual group that had a civil liberties policy to the Left of the Democratic Party and an economic policy to the Right of the Republican Party but all on a foundation of what seemed to me a Darwinian belief in survival of the fittest in both wings with as little government involvement as possible. The closest Presidential election precedent I could come up with at the time was Barry Goldwater's version of the Republican Party in 1964.

John Hospers and Toni Nathan had both been influenced by the writings of Ayn Rand and were considered among the founders of the Party. Nathan had originally been a Democrat, which I imagine was an unusual political background for the Libertarians of that era. Nathan did not attend the Party's convention expecting to be selected as the running-mate, but the nomination seemed to fit and launched her interest in running for public office for over the next quarter century.

The 1972 platform included:

Crime. "We hold that no action which does not infringe the rights of others can properly be termed a crime."

Freedom of Speech and The Press. "We pledge to oppose all forms of censorship, whatever the medium involved."

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. "In recognition of the fact that the individual is his own last source of self-defense, the authors of the Constitution guaranteed, in the Second Amendment, the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This reasoning remains valid today. We pledge to uphold that guarantee. We oppose compulsory arms registration."

Volunteer Army. "We oppose the draft (Selective Service), believing that the use of force to require individuals to serve in the armed forces or anywhere else is a violation of their rights, and that a well-paid volunteer army is a more effective means of national defense than the involuntary servitude exemplified by the draft."

Subsidies. "In order to achieve a free economy in which government victimizes no one for the benefit of anyone else, we oppose all government subsidies to business, labor, education, agriculture, science, the arts, or any other special interests."

Tariffs and Quotas. "Like subsidies, tariffs and quotas serve only to give special treatment to favored interests and to diminish the welfare of other citizens. We therefore support abolition of all tariffs and quotas as well as the Tariff Commission and the Customs Court."

Consumer Protection. "We shall support strong and effective laws against fraud and misrepresentation. We shall oppose, however, that present and prospective so-called "consumer protection" legislation which infringes upon voluntary trade."

Overpopulation. "We support an end to all subsidies for childbearing built into our present laws, including all welfare plans and the provision of tax-supported services for children. We further support the repeal of all laws restricting voluntary birth control or voluntary termination of pregnancies during their first hundred days. We shall oppose all coercive measures to control population growth."

Education. "We support the repeal of all compulsory education laws, and an end to government operation, regulation, and subsidy of schools. We call for an immediate end of compulsory busing."

Poverty and Unemployment. "We support repeal of all laws which impede the ability of any person to find employment—including, but not limited to, minimum wage laws, so-called "protective" labor legislation for women and children, governmental restrictions on the establishment of private day-care centers, the National Labor Relations Act, and licensing requirements. We oppose all government welfare and relief projects and "aid to the poor" programs, inasmuch as they are not within the proper role of government, and do contribute to unemployment. All aid to the poor should come from private sources."

Foreign Aid. "We support an end to the Federal foreign aid program."

Military Alliances. "The United States should abandon its attempts to act as policeman for the world, and should enter into alliances only with countries whose continued free existence is vital to the protection of the freedom of all American citizens."

Secession. "We shall support recognition of the right to secede. Political units or areas which do secede should be recognized by the United States as independent political entities where: (1) secession is supported by a majority within the political unit, (2) the majority does not attempt suppression of the dissenting minority, and (3) the government of the new entity is at least as compatible with human freedom as that from which it seceded."

The United Nations. "We support withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations. We further support a Constitutional Amendment designed to prohibit the United States from entering into any treaty under which it relinquishes any portion of its sovereignty."

I was politically active here in Washington State in 1972, and I have to say that if not for the Voters Pamphlet I would not have been aware of the Libertarian Party. The media up here pretty much ignored them and the embryonic party really didn't have a strong enough organization yet to wage an effective statewide campaign.

The Hospers/Nathan ticket received 0.12% of the Colorado vote and 0.10% in Washington. A faithless Nixon Elector in Virginia named Roger MacBride (1929-1995) cast his vote for the Libertarian ticket. There had been other women in the VP role in the past, as well as running-mates of the Jewish faith, but Toni Nathan was the first in either category to have ever been granted an Electoral vote-- before Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, before Joe Lieberman in 2000. MacBride had been a former Goldwater Republican and had served in the Vermont State Legislature a decade earlier. In 1976 he was the Libertarian Party nominee for President.

Election history:
1976 - US House of Representatives (Or.) (Independent) - defeated
1980 - US Senate (Or.) (Libertarian Party) - defeated
1983 - Libertarian Party nomination for US President - defeated
1984 - Lane County (Or.) County Commission (Libertarian Party) - defeated
1990 - US House of Representatives (Or.) (Libertarian Party) - defeated
1992 - Oregon State Senate (Libertarian Party) - defeated
1996 - US House of Representatives (Or.) (Libertarian Party) - defeated
1998 - Oregon State Senate (Libertarian Party) - defeated

Other occupations: insurance agent, music publisher, decorating service owner, radio and television producer, television talk show host

Buried: Sunset Hills Cemetery (Eugene, Or.)

Notes:
1980 opponents were Bob Packwood (winner) and Ted Kulongoski.
She lived in a county in Oregon named after another third party vice-presidential candidate who also
received votes from the Electoral College, Joseph Lane (1801-1881) who in 1860 ran as VP in the
 Constitutional Democratic Party.
Married a composer, Charles Nathan, who had the same surname.
She was a lifelong naturopath.
"The American public has a right to hear discussions on ALL issues that affect them. If all views were represented in the dialogues preceding the national election, there would be more voters participating and a better indication of what voters really wanted. If the winning candidate could know the major concerns of the public, he/she could act upon them. After all, the election is the most revealing and authentic poll of all, providing voters are aware of all viewpoints and vote for the ones they support. The election isn't a horse race and voters don't have to pick a winner. They should vote their consciences and pick the candidate who best represents their values. This way is really the only way of getting their concerns before those who will ultimately determine the direction of this country on matters of supreme importance."--Toni Nathan 2004.

Addison Brown

Addison Brown, April 23, 1922 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - January 17, 2000 (Portland, Ore.)

VP candidate for Outer Space Party (aka Flying Saucer Party aka Universal Flying Saucer Party aka Independent Nonpartisan) (1960)

Running mate with nominee: Gabriel Green (1924-2001)

Popular vote: 0 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/537

The campaign:

It all started with economics. Addison Brown had cooked up an economic theory in 1947 called "Prior Choice Economics," and this was expanded upon in 1955 by Gabriel Green. This system could be described as sort of a competitive free-market  utopian system where physical money and taxes are abolished and purchasing power is gained by how many "points" one has earned on a labor card, the amount to be determined by some sort of government body.

Shortly after publishing his 1955 economics book, Gabriel Green went public with his belief that he was in contact with aliens and organized the Los Angeles Interplanetary Study Group in 1956 which morphed into the national group, Amalgamated Flying Saucer Clubs in 1959.

In 1958 Green ran for US Congress in California under the Economic Security Party (ESP, get it?) banner.

Green was sitting in his home in Whittier, Calif. in the spring of 1960 when an alien in a business suit from Alpha Centauri paid him a visit and told him, in English, "We want you to run for President of the United States." Or at least that's his story.

Prior Choice Economics godfather Addison Brown was named as the running mate. He was living in Illinois at this time. Yes, I know, a Green/Brown ticket. Brown was also known as "John Believer."

The Party platform included: "... Free permanent insurance on everything, no more taxes, free medical and dental care for everyone without the disadvantage of socialized medicine and cradle to grave economic security."

Green quotes from media:

"With the help of spacemen I believe I can carry millions of votes ... Hundreds of space people are walking the streets."

"All of our high scientists have been taken to other planets. President Eisenhower flew out to Edwards Air Force Base for a briefing with a saucer crew. I know Nixon has been contacted, but I am not sure about Kennedy."

"I may not win in 1960, but I'm sure of 1964."

Green endorsed JFK shortly before the election saying an "extraterrestrial electronic brain" predicted a Democratic landslide. Also, he explained, "Not enough Americans have yet seen flying saucers or talked to outer space people."

Outer Space Party campaign manager Elary John Willsie (1921-2005) told the press that JFK's razor-thin victory was due to Green's endorsement, otherwise "it appears likely that he [Green] would have polled at least 500,000 votes." Since the Green/Brown ticket was not on any ballots, those votes would have been write-ins.

Within a short time Green had managed to integrate Prior Choice Economics into his extraterrestrial/political agenda, informing us that this economic system was also used by alien civilizations. We will read more about this in elections to come. Meanwhile, being the VP nominee did not seem to be a milestone in the life of Addison Brown, who was involved in much more important projects.

Election history: none

Other occupations: author, physicist, economist, inventor, futurist

Buried: ?

Notes:
Addison Brown managed to somehow expand the Prior Choice Economics theory into a whole complicated cosmology that included "resonation physics" and the ability to overcome Death itself. Brown and his Canadian disciple Alan K. Wu had developed a piece of software that was downloadable on any home computer called "Miracle.zip" that would somehow enable one to begin this process. After Brown's stroke in 1996 and death in 2000, Wu had set up a website (now extinct) as a way of honoring Brown's desire to set up a foundation continuing his work.

Summarizing Brown's cosmological model looks to be extremely complicated, but Wu gave it go:

We are dedicated to the preservation and continuation of the work of the Prophet-Writer-Inventor Addison Brown, sometimes known as John Believer, of Portland,  Oregon.

April 23 1922 - January 2000

Mr Brown is a writer of scientific and economical theories. He is a Prophet in the Eastern and original sense of the word, yet he 'sees' life and life's mysteries and their unraveling through the eyes of contemporary science. He is an inventor as well as a futurist, a visionary in the formost avangarde tradition, or anti-tradition, as some would have it. His theories and New Cosmology leads to Human Understood Reincarnation and Resurrecting the Dead Project.

PERSONNEL :

Before his stroke in 1996, I used to work with and under the supervision of Mr Brown.  At the present time I am the sole member of this research.

It was the hope of Mr Brown before his stroke to found a foundation which would continue his research.

BASIC THEORIES and WORKS :

Addison's work consist mainly of these basic parts : A New Cosmology in Resonation Physics with application to Human Understood Reincarnation and Resurrecting the Dead Project, and Theories on Economics known as Prior Choice or Permanent Credit System Economics which if implemented will solve all of the problems of unemployment, taxation, Medical care, old age retirement, funding for public and private education, child and adult welfare, joblessness and loss of jobs to the third world or a foreign country, and most of the economical problems of the latter 20th century. It will also help to fulfill, along with resurrection of the dead, the major CREATIVE prophecies of Christianity. It serves as a Mirror that reflect and echoes prophecies of the Christian religion, how "in the Last Days the dead shall be resurrected ' and how "by thy WORK, thy shall be judged (as to how  much work is done and performed etc." for the whole world to see.

It also fulfill CREATIVE prophecies of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and other major religions.

...

The main work is how to time the birth of a child using computerised horoscope timing so as to exhibit the highest possible Human Potential Quotient, or duplicate the soul shape and consciousness of a person previously alive but now 'deceased'. (Soul seperated from body because body no longer exist due to expiry at old age or some other causes.) The term Human Potential Quotient is developed and introduced by Addison and I based on computer programs developed here for the IBM PC and applies to the overall intelligence, abilities, potential, courage, integrity and personalities etc. of a unborn child based on, for lack of a better term, 'Astrological considerations' or computerized Horoscope timing. This computerized Horoscoping  is based on the theories and techniques developed by Mr Brown, the Prophet from Portland, Oregon.

You can download programs ---Miracle.zip--- developed for the IBM PC on Human Understood Reincarnation and Resurrecting the Dead project. As mentioned before, the programs will enable you to predict the best time for birth of a child so as to have the highest Human Potential Quotient.

If you find this incredible or hard to believe, and if you are not interested in over coming death, there are other files and programs available in the zipped file that discuss economics, life's mysteries and other topics and problems.

More trivia I cannot resist. The concept of resurrecting the dead is a main theme in Ed Wood's cult-classic late 1950s film Plan 9 From Outer Space. In the movie, the leader of the aliens, the one who has approved the plan to bring the deceased back to life, is played by the actor John Cabell "Bunny" Breckinridge in his only cinematic role. Breckinridge was the great-grandson of another John Cabell Breckinridge, who ran for President in 1860 as part of a third party-- the Constitutional Democratic Party! And to add to our joy of  trivia involving the Pacific Northwest, his third party VP running mate, Joseph Lane, died in Oregon just like Addison Brown! As one of Plan 9's gravediggers says, "Yeah, kind spooky-like."

Joseph Lane

Joseph Lane, December 14, 1801 (Buncombe County, NC) – April 19, 1881 (Roseburg, Ore.)

VP candidate for Constitutional Democratic Party 1860
Running mate with nominee: John C. Breckinridge (1821-1875)
Popular vote: 848,019 (18.10%)
Electoral vote: 72/303 (Ala.,Ark.,Del.,Fla.,Ga.,La., Md., Miss., NC, SC, Tex.)

The campaign:

What can you say about an election that was followed by a bloody Civil War?

Simply put, the Constitutional Democratic Party was a classic splinter third party, formed by a bloc of delegates who were not satisfied with the mainstream nominee (Stephen Douglas). The pro-slavery Southern Democrats placed third in the popular vote but second in the electoral tally. Of the 11 states they took, only two of them had all four of the major parties on the same ballot. The Republicans were not offered as a choice in Dixie. Breckinridge/Lane nearly won Virginia, Tennessee and Oregon and also were the runner ups in Kentucky.

A longshot "Fusion" scheme in New York by Democrats would have resulted in the election being deadlocked in the Electoral College and through a complicated series of political acrobatics, Lane would be elected President by the US Senate.

Election history:
1822-1823 - Indiana House of Representatives (Democratic Party)
1830-1833 - Indiana House of Representatives (Democratic Party)
1838-1839 - Indiana House of Representatives (Democratic Party)
1839-1840 - Indiana State Senate (Democratic Party)
1844-1846 - Indiana State Senate (Democratic Party)
1851-1859 - Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives (Oregon Terr.) (Democratic Party)
1859-1861 - U.S. Senate (Oregon) (Democratic Party)

Other occupations: flatboat pilot, militia captain, US Army Brigadier General, appointed Governor of Oregon Territory 1849-1850, Oregon Superintendent of Indian Affairs, Acting Governor of Oregon Territory for three days 1853,

Buried: Roseburg Memorial Gardens, Roseburg, Ore.

Notes:
Served in the US-Mexican War and was wounded.
Wounded in conflicts with Native Americans in Oregon.
Baptized as a Catholic in 1867 but apparently renounced the faith shortly before his death.
Supported the Confederacy but remained in Oregon, ending his political career.
His son Lafeyette Lane served in the US House (D-Ore.) 1875-1877 and his grandson Harry Lane
was Mayor of Portland and a US  Senator (D-Ore.) 1913-1917
Cousin to David Lowry Swain (1801-1868) who was born in the same log cabin and served as
Governor of NC as a Whig (1832-1835)
Said to have continued to have kept slaves even in Oregon and after the Civil War.
His son John Lane served in the Confederate military forces.
Lane had made some movement after his 1860 loss to help establish a pro-slavery Pacific Republic in
Oregon and north California that would expand the concept of legal human bondage to Asians,
Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders as well as African Americans.
