Amy Jean Klobuchar

Amy Jean Klobuchar, May 25, 1960 (Plymouth, Minn.) -

VP candidate for Independent (2016)

Running mate with nominee: Jeffrey Ryan Wharton Sr. (b. 1982)
Popular vote: 53 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

Jeffrey Wharton, a casino worker in Minnesota, ran for President in 2016 as a registered write-in in his home state. He selected Sen. Amy Klobuchar as his running-mate.

Under the heading of "Ending the dog and pony show and seeking solutions," Wharton attempted to drum up enthusiasm on Crowdpac--

In trying times one must stand up and speak amongst all men and women and be that voice that connects the missing links of equality and fight for the rights and liberties of others. We as a nation can no longer settle for these individuals who only want to make history and be the first person to achieve we need to come together on a stronger ground and fill the divide that we are sitting in between.

In endorsing his own campaign, Wharton added--

I personally believe in time the people of the United States will stand and fight with and along side a president like myself to see real solutions ....

I could not find any record of Sen. Klobuchar's response to being on this ticket, which would have been potentially problematic in the event of their victory since they were residents of the same state.

In 2016 Klobuchar had more bills passed than any other member of the US Senate. She also had the highest staff turnover, a fact that came back to haunt her 2020 Presidential campaign.

Election history:
1994 - Hennepin County Prosecuting Attorney (Nonpartisan) - withdrew
1999-2007 - Hennepin County Prosecuting Attorney (Nonpartisan)
2007-present - US Senate (Minn.) (Democratic-Farmer-Labor)
2020 - Democratic nomination for US President - defeated

Other occupations: attorney, author, editor

Notes:
Apparently Wharton ran for Governor of Minnesota in the Republican primaries in 2018 but dropped out.
