Carl Lindell Kemp

Carl Lindell Kemp, September 9, 1947 -

VP candidate for Freedom of Choice Party (1992)

Running mate with nominee: Jouett Edgar Arney (1932-2003)
Popular vote: 0 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

Jouett Edgar Arney and Carl L. Kemp were two convicts who were incarcerated in Lansing, Kan. Arney was serving a life sentence for a murder he committed in 1972 and had become a legal advocate to improve prison conditions. This was Arney's second run for the Presidency from behind bars.

Arney's running-mate in 1992 was Carl L. Kemp, who was serving a sentence for beating his third wife to death and hiding the body in a home-made wooden box which was placed in a storage shed outside of their mobile home in Lawrence, Kansas in Sept. 1987. He was in his fourth year of serving a 15-year sentence.

Their campaign, such as it was, had been ignored by the press even though both candidates were filed with the FEC.

In the event they had won the election there would have been a Constitutional problem with the fact they filed as residents of the same state.

Election history: none

Other occupations: hamburger diner (Calico Rock, Ark.), criminal, prisoner

Notes:
Kemp's criminal record extended to at least 2008.
