Dennis Andrew Ball of Arizona founded the American Party of America in 1995 but did not appear to run for President until 2012. Apparently not a believer in filing with the FEC, Ball seems to have started running in 2011. Included in Ball's campaign webpage was his embrace of Birtherism, a strong dislike of President Obama, opposition to Gay rights, and support for energy alternatives. He was also selling a book he had authored.

During the 2012 election season Kates interviewed national figures such as Lyndon LaRouche and Ron Paul. Kates is also known as "Dr. Sky," hosting programs reflecting his interest in astronomy.
For reasons that are unclear, Kates was registered as "Stephan Kates" with Ball as a write-in in Minnesota. Ball was also registered but without a running-mate in Idaho, Montana, and Washington. None of these states reported any votes for Ball.
Apparently both Ball and Kates were residents of Arizona which would have posed a Constitutional problem in the event of their victory. Ball ran for President in 2016 and 2020 with Richard Sanders as his VP.
