The campaign:
Apparently based in Baltimore, El Tigre (complete with a Lucha libre mask) had been part of the Rock N Roll Freak Show since 1997. Around 2011 he started becoming a regular guest on children's program called Cooking With Rola that is available on Youtube.
What is Cooking With Rola? In 2011 the website Polistra's Mill reviewed it thusly-- "Cooking With Rola is one of the most non-self-explanatory video productions in the world. Something like a Pakistani version of Sesame Street on LSD. Why is this odd international collection of people and puppets in the same room? Why are they giving demonstrations of cooking?"
Rola is actually a puppet. On the minimal website for the show, this explanation is offered-- "I am Rola and Welcome to our show. This is the place where we bring joy to your stomach. Every episode, we bring a guest and we cook for them. We all cook, eat, and joke around. Our chef cooks really yummy food. It's so delicious, you will go crazy like that guy (points to the guy munching in the corner). We also give a message of the day and read mail from our viewers, so send some mail! Watch every episode for a yummy recipe and fun."
The program for Mar. 23, 2012 included the announcement that El Tigre was running for President with Rola as his running-mate, although no platform or vision was shared with the viewers.
Needless to say, there would have been a few problems with the Constitution had the ticket emerged victorious on Election Day.
