Suzanne Marie Dudgeon House

Suzanne Marie Dudgeon House, March 1, 1967 (Jefferson County, Ky.) -

VP candidate for Independent (2012)

Running mate with nominee: Louis Todd House (b. 1969)
Popular vote: 1 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

Dr. Louis Todd House (apparently known as Todd House), a Louisville, Ky. anesthesiologist with the Dupont Surgical Center, filed in his home state for President in July, 2012 with his wife Suzanne as his running-mate.

Other married couples who ran as a ticket include Marvin Edward Perkins/Dorothy Louise Perkins - Independent (1980), Henry R. King/Sandra M. King - Independent (1984, 1988, 1992), David C. Byrne/Karen Byrne - Common Citizens of the United States of America (2000), Stanford Eugene Andress/Irene Altahelle Markley Deasy - Unaffiliated (2004), Debra Joyce Renderos/Oscar Renderos Castillo - Independent (2004), Oscar R. Renderos/Debra Joyce Renderos - Independent (2008), Debra Joyce Renderos/Oscar R. Renderos - Independent (2008), Christopher Michael Padgett/Linda Aileen Padgett - Independent (2012).

The fact the standard bearer and the VP were spouses was not legally a problem, but being residents of the same state was certainly an obstacle. Reporter Kenny Colston of WFPL caught this right away when covering their initial filing.

As it turns out Dr. House was not running to win the Presidency. Rather, he apparently felt his standing as a registered write-in candidate would give him more clout when filing an Obama "birther" lawsuit in court, which he in fact did on Aug. 10, 2012. One of his goals was to prevent the President from being listed on the ballot. The Courier-Journal reported House "said that he filed to run for president in part to give him standing to file the suit but also because he opposes both Republicans and Democrats and wanted to help get the Libertarian message out."

House's effort was only one of many politically motivated court tests on this subject taking place around the country, all of them going nowhere as zero valid evidence was produced to support their claims.

Registered as write-ins only in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the House/House ticket received a solitary vote.
