Byron Lane Poindexter

                                                                 John Oscian Parmele Jr.

Byron Lane Poindexter, June 5, 1969 (Rockingham County, N.C.) -

VP candidate for Independent (2012)

Running mate with nominee: John Oscian Parmele Jr. (1942-2016)
Popular vote: 0 (0.00%)
Electoral vote: 0/538

The campaign:

John Oscian Parmele, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va. filed with the FEC on Jan. 25, 2011 as an Independent for the 2012 Presidential election. Later in the year his running-mate was named as Byron L. Poindexter of Reidsville, N.C.

Something of a perennial Independent candidate since the 1980s for various offices, Parmele was also running as a write-in for the US House in 2012. His Presidential campaign did not generate any real press, but from his other runs for office he indicated he was in favor of increasing the gas tax, supporting light rail, and banning cell phones while operating motor vehicles.

Parmele was a news item in May 2016 when he purloined two US flags on display by his neighbor, Mike Anderson. A retired career Navy veteran, it bothered Parmele that the flags were on display at night without illumination and the anonymous notes he sent Anderson had no effect. He also had a sign in his yard, next to his Trump Make America Great Again sign, that declared: "Mike Anderson disrespects veterans, shame on you!!!" Needless to say, his arguments did not help when he was found guilty of several charges in court.

In the event of their victory, Poindexter would have assumed the Presidency upon the death of Parmele, Oct. 21, 2016.
