The campaign:

Craig Ellis of Louisville, Ky. registered as a 2016 write-in candidate for President in Kentucky. His running-mate was Irving D. Smith, apparently also from Louisville. They ran what I like to call stealth electioneering.

I believe I have the correct individuals listed here, but there is a shred of doubt. I highly suspect this campaign was a high school educational exercise as a lesson in civics.

The Ellis/Smith ticket earned 14 write-in votes from their home state. The fact they were residents of the same commonwealth might have been a problem per the Constitution in the event of their victory.
