It is only half tongue in cheek (because I'm really going to do it) that I announce my candidacy for president of the United State of America.  I can't vote for any of the people currently running, but want to vote.  I need someone I  trust to act with integrity, and a conscience.  It also helps that I will not be on trial for a felony by November.  Victor Neves agreed to be my running mate.  We are running as unaffiliated and our platform includes basic decency towards other humans, government that helps people within the bounds of the Constitution, and telling the truth.  I'm writing myself in, not out of disrespect for the lives that guaranteed us our freedom and the right to vote; rather, because I can't in good conscience exercise that right to vote for any candidate remaining.

Do we have a chance of winning.  Not by any level of miracle that exists do I think we will win, but I will be able to sleep at night and will never have to admit that I voted for either of the power hungry, corrupt, dishonest individuals that are left in this race.

Burton, a piano tuner and high school band teacher in Wasilla, Alaska, created a campaign Facebook page that unfortunately no longer exists. On his personal site he presented what could be considered a political platform, Sept. 4, 2016--

I wrote the following op-ed with the intent of submitting it to papers; however, I discovered that it is about twice the allowed length for any newspapers I'm interested in submitting to, so. . . . What Politics Should be About

At its most basic, politics is the utilization of power to influence the governance of a group of individuals.  Much has been written about politics, what it should be and what it should not be, what politicians can and cannot accomplish, what should or should not be done.  In the United States we elect people from among us to represent us and to serve in government.  We vote for both the person and the vision that they embody.   Or at least that is how it should be.  There are five parts of this system that have all but ceased to be reality in the United States.  This notion is in danger of being left by the wayside in American politics.  Too many people have been sold lies and stories for so long, that the system no longer resembles what was intended by our founding fathers, what it once was, nor what it should be.  It is not too late to create a revolution in politics that fundamentally changes the workings of government in America.  The five concepts that need to be resurrected are: we, people, represent, serve, and vision.

 WE, as in “We the people”.  The citizens of the United States are entrusted with the future of our nation.  We have been born into a society and time that knows no parallel in human history.  We are born with freedom, opportunity, and technology that is astounding.  We are also born with responsibility.  If we don’t pay attention to the governance of our country, than we will certainly lose that responsibility and the freedoms that it provides.  How many of us vote?  The numbers are staggeringly low.  Of those that vote, how many of us “hold our nose” while we vote for the “lesser of two evils”?  WE.  We the people must be involved.  We must know what our government is doing.  We must know who the people are that constitute our government.  We must educate ourselves to understand the world we live in, and the impact that government has on our lives and the lives of others around the world.  Then we must put this into action by making our opinions known, living according to our belief, and voting.  It is important to recognize that this power of “we” is a threat to those who see government as a means to personal power.  Our opportunity to vote is being curtailed whenever possible. We vote for ballot initiatives.  We vote for the retention of judges.  We vote for bonds.  We vote for people.

 PEOPLE.  Our votes do matter.  We are the ones that elect people.  That means we, as a nation, bear the responsibility for what and who our representatives are.  Each time we vote, we are voting for a person.  Too many times we are sold the lie that we have to vote for a platform, potential appointee, a party, or a single issue when really we are voting for a person.  The people we elect matter.  Do they have integrity?  If they don’t and we vote for them, then do we have integrity?  Do they understand the issues and ramifications of the issues?  Do they defend the Constitution and champion the needs of the people (It is possible to do both, despite what our two party system says).  If they don’t and we vote for them anyway, do we deserve to have well reasoned laws?  Do they have compassion?  If they don’t and we vote for them anyway, we will not have a compassionate system of governance.

REPRESENT.  We have a government that represents those who vote.  Too many people vote for a party, or vote out of fear of who the “other” side will nominate as a judge, or view electing a representative as a referendum on some existing or proposed law.  As a society and as a government we cannot endure ignorant voting or apathetic non-voting.  It may be painful and it may take time to correct things with in the system, but we can withstand that.  What we cannot withstand is a government that doesn’t represent us.  Who paid for a candidates advertisements?  What connections do they have?  What concessions to party have they made over principle?  Are they career politicians or are they working people from the community?  Those in power may claim that these questions are naive and that you must vote for or against a person based on their party or commitments.  In fact, they will make these claims, because it helps them maintain power and control.  As long we continue to believe them, they are right.  Remember, you are voting for one person.  Every circle you fill out or click on is a single vote for a person.  All of us are fallible.  Every politician will make mistakes.  This truth makes it even more important that the person you are filling out the bubble for really represents you by their character and vision?  Our government truly does represent us (or at least those of us who vote), and we are responsible for who is in office and what they are doing with that power.  The government truly reflects society.  If we want a government that serves the people, we have to be worthy of having one.  We need to serve each other and only vote for those willing to serve the people.

SERVE.  The government is supposed to serve the people and the common interests of the people.  Many times as a society we disagree about things.  The beauty of our system of government is that we can change.  People and organizations frequently and rightfully work to persuade us to make change.  We are a better country and society for that.  It takes time, patience, and hard work to implement change and that is a good thing.  It provides temperance and restraint and forces reflection and self-examination before change occurs.
If the government lives to serve us then it should do what we want it to do.  If it doesn’t, we can vote for new representatives.  Too frequently the people elected to represent us are more interested in retaining power, making money, and peddling influence than in really serving us..  They should be rolling up their sleeves, often literally, in their communities to make things work.  Fix that bike trail.  Donate to the new community center.  Read books to students learning to read.  Share talents in whatever field they have experience in.  Be with people young and old, healthy and sick.  They should be the example of service.
Leadership that is tainted with hypocrisy is never effective.  When laws benefit a lobby group, friends, campaign contributors, or politicians themselves, our system of governance starts to rot from within.  The people begin to be compelled to serve the government in opposition to the design of government.  Service requires action.  It requires sacrifice.  It requires vision.

 VISION.  Leadership has always been about vision.  Uniting people to work for common goals is not always easy.  America is a diverse.  We have different backgrounds, values, religions, cultures, races, genders, ages, ethics, and expectations.  Finding majority agreement is hard to do in small groups.  Forging a majority in a population of 300 million+ people is remarkably difficult and can be done in a few ways.  Compulsion, manipulation, and fear are the tools of tyrants.  Eliminating options (see this year’s Presidential candidates) so people buy into the erroneous idea that there are only two choices and they have to choose one side or the other is the oppression of the two party system.  Finding solutions that are truly creative and representative of the needs and goals of us all is the ideal that ethical government servants should adopt.  The issues debated at a national level are complex.  There are diverse possibilities and dangers that require listening, expertise, compromise, and understanding.  Agreeing on a desired result is difficult.   Competing philosophies on how to achieve the result further complicate things.  How does a leader effectively combine these ideals and put them to work?

 A leader must love his constituents.  There are many four letter words bandied about in modern political discourse.  The one that offers the most hope is probably the one least heard.  LOVE.  Genuine and sincere caring, compassion, concern, empathy, and love would change the course of political discourse.  We all have someone we love that disagrees with us about political ideas and when that love is stronger than the disagreement we find ways to compromise or agree to disagree.  We are honest with those we love.   We serve those we love.  We sacrifice for those we love.  We provide for the needs and for the future of those we love.  We care for those we love and we respect their opinions.  We faithfully represent the people we love and protect their rights and freedom.

Some will argue that this is too simple, too idealistic, dangerous.  Our present course is more dangerous.  The vision represented by love, integrity, and service is the counter culture to current politics.  We the people, must take an interest in our government.  We must vote for people that represent us.  We must serve each other and expect the government to do the same while representing our interests.  We must have a shared vision that isn’t afraid to love.

Victor Neves, Burton's running-mate, was also a band teacher and colleague. Neves lived in Utah, where the two apparently originally knew each other. The ticket was noteworthy for being a 100% LDS team and in many ways anticipated Evan McMullin's later entry into the race.

Burton/Neves were registered write-ins in Alaska (which does not report write-in vote tallies in a categorical way), and Utah.

The campaign:

Shawna Sterling of Brooksville, Ky. filed with the FEC as a Republican on June 6, 2015. On June 16 the name of the campaign committee was changed from "Shawna Sterling 2016" to "Shawna Sterling 2016 Pro Life Pro America It's Time to Take Care of America." On June 23 the candidate had a name change, "Pastor Shawna Sterling," and a political designation alteration from Republican to Independent, and a committee name change to "Pastor Shawna Sterling 2016 Pro Life Pro America It's Time to Take Care of America." Things settled down for a few months then on Jan. 1, 2016 the political allegiance changed to Libertarian and the committee was simply "Pro Life Pro America." The FEC didn't like the committee name so it was changed to "Pro America Sterling 4 President" on Feb. 9. Finally, on July 6, 2016 Sterling switched back to Independent and listed Jack Robinson of Spartanburg, S.C. as a running-mate. Whew!

Meanwhile, Jack B. Robinson had filed with the FEC for President as an Independent on Aug. 28, 2015. On Nov. 12, 2015 he switched his party identification to Libertarian.

Sterling was no stranger to running for office. In 2014 she was defeated by Mitch McConnell in the Republican primary for the US Senate. Her campaign website at that time promoted the concept of secret numerological messages she had decoded from a few movie trailers that predicted dire events such as 9/11 or Sandy Hook. She also included a video by discredited conspiracy-for-profit merchant Alex Jones. Interestingly, in 2012 she had briefly switched to the Democratic Party and worked for Obama's re-election.

When Sterling was running for the Libertarian nomination her platform had a few deviations from the standard Party line--

I am pro-life. All Persons at any stage in their life, have the right to life.
I support the legalization of same sex marriage. Persons cannot be forced to perform a marriage.
Federal government should not fund Planned Parenthood, only programs required by the U.S. Constitution.
A business should not be forced to provide services. The federal government should not be able to deny services.
A health provider should not be forced to offer free birth control.
The federal government should not force a separation of church and state upon the States or the People.
I do not support the death penalty.
The Federal government should not force businesses or religious groups to associate with any Person.
The Federal government should not discriminate against any Person as it represents all Persons.
Terminally ill patients should be allowed to refuse artificial life support.
Businesses should not be forced to have women or men on their board of directors.
The U.S. military should allow women to serve in combat roles as the U.S. military represents all People.
The Federal government should not force the States or People loyal to the U.S. Constitution to remove flags.

The federal government should not increase environmental regulations to prevent global warming.
States and People living in the State should determine who cares for national parks located in their respective State.
Producers should not be required to label genetically engineered foods.
I do not support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas, as it contaminates our drinking water.
The U.S. should not expand offshore oil drilling.
The Federal government should not give tax credits and subsidies to the wind power industry.

The Federal government should not force employers to pay men and women the same for the same job.
If people individually choose to support welfare, Persons receiving welfare should not be forced to work.
If People individually choose to support welfare, Persons applying for welfare should not be forced to take drug tests.
The Federal government should not force non-government employers to pay employees a specific minimum wage.
The Federal government should not force businesses to provide paid leave.
The Federal government should make cuts to public spending and eliminate programs not required by the Constitution.
Only taxes required by the U.S. Constitution should be collected from both Corporations and U.S. Citizens.
Wall Street executives should be criminally charged for their roles in the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis.
I believe that labor unions help the economy.
Only taxes required by the U.S. Constitution should be collected from capital gains of U.S. Citizens.
The Federal Reserve Bank should be abolished and the U.S. should return to the gold standard.
The Federal government should not subsidize farmers, as it is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
The Federal government should not infringe upon the rights of the People to grow and sell in the free market.
I do not favor an increased sales tax in order to reduce property taxes.
Government workers should have the choice to privately manage their pension plan accounts.
I do not support the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
The government should not classify Bitcoin as a legal currency as it provides too high of risk for criminal activity.
U.S. Citizens should be allowed to save or invest their money in offshore bank accounts, as long as income is reported.

The Federal government should not infringe on the rights of U.S. Citizens to acquire and bear arms.
U.S Citizens who end up on a “no-fly list” should not have their gun rights infringed upon without due process of law.
Term limits should not be set for members of Congress, those who violate laws should be removed from office.
The FBI should not require Apple to give them software keys that could violate the privacy rights of U.S. Citizens.
Local police should not engage in unconstitutional surveillance and patrol of U.S. Citizens who are Muslim.
Victims of gun violence should be allowed to sue firearm dealers, even if the Court ultimately dismisses their case.
The Senate should not vote on Obama’s Supreme Court nominee as Obama should be impeached for treason.
I favor decriminalization of drug use and providing amnesty with substance abuse counseling for non-violent offenders.
Corporation and unions (Super PACs) should be allowed to donate to political candidates.
NSA should not collect U.S. Citizens private information without a warrant showing probable cause of criminal activity.
Non-government Internet Service Providers should be allowed to speed up access to popular websites if they want to.
I do not support affirmative action programs as this could limit the hiring of the most qualified candidate for the job.
The Federal government should not raise the retirement age for Social Security.
I do not support the Patriot Act as it is unpatriotic to engage in unconstitutional surveillance of U.S. Citizens.
The Federal or State government should not be allowed to seize private property.
The redrawing of Congressional districts should be controlled by an independent, non-partisan commission.

I do not support the ACA as it proved to not be affordable and as it is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
I support an open market where health care insurers can compete across state lines.
The Federal government should not force vaccinations on U.S. Citizens.         
The Federal government has no right to regulate Marijuana as this right belongs to the State and its People.
The Federal government should not fund health care as it is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
States should decide their own level of health care coverage.

A photo ID should be required to vote to help prevent voter fraud and to ensure that votes cast are by U.S. Citizens only.

Prisons should ban the use of solitary confinement for juveniles.

The U.S. should accept refugees from Syria who have no ties to terrorists and who will take our Oath of Nationality.
Foreign terrorism suspects should be tried in military tribunals but not subject to torture.
The Federal government should decrease military spending that is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
The military should not use enhanced interrogation techniques. I am against torture.
U.S. Citizens who are 18 years old should not be required to provide military service. I am against the draft in all forms.
The U.S. should not declare war on ISIS as our special forces already have AUMF authority to pursue and strike ISIS.
The U.S. should not give foreign nations including Israel foreign aid, as it is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
The U.S. should not send troops into Syria to fight ISIS, unless they are special forces operating under our current AUMF.
The U.S. should not remain in the United Nations and we should remove the U.N. headquarters from the U.S.

U.S. Special Forces have authority pursuant to our current AUMF to pursue and strike U.S. enemies.
The U.S. should not give foreign aid to any country, as it is not required by our U.S. Constitution.
The U.S. should close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as it is a waste of money and resources.
The U.S. trade and travel embargo on Cuba should be lifted to increase democratic relations between the U.S. and Cuba.
U.S. should not conduct military strikes against North Korea unless intelligence confirms a need for defensive strikes.
The U.S. should not prevent Russia from conducting airstrikes in Syria.
The U.S. should not overthrow President Assad of Syria, as he was lawfully elected by the Syrian Citizens.
The U.S. should not continue NSA surveillance of its allies.


I do not support increasing taxes for the rich in order to reduce interest rates for student loans.
I do not support Common Core as education should be handled at the state and local level instead of the national level.

Federal government should not provide health care to illegal immigrants as it is not required by the U.S. Constitution.
State government and the People have the right to determine if they will provide health care to illegal immigrants.
Immigrants should be allowed to enter the U.S. if they want to be U.S. Citizens and if they take our Oath of Nationality.
The U.S. should not increase restrictions on its current border security, but should enforce the current border policy.
States and the People determine whether illegal immigrants should be offered in-state tuition rates at public colleges.
Immigrants should be required to learn English.
Children of illegal immigrants should be granted legal citizenship if they were born in the U.S.
Law enforcement should be allowed to detain illegal immigrants and transfer them to federal immigration authorities.

Before running as a Libertarian, Jack Robinson Jr. had thrown his hat into the ring as an Independent for President--

Robinson's Unification of America plan will counter these problems which he believes is the best ideas of all of our political parties are proposing, the plan will be largely economic and will successfully harness all of America's ideals, resources, institutions, political parties, wealth classes, races, businesses and individuals to ensure a unified nation working harmoniously towards the collective interest of the country and its people.

The 2016 US Presidential Elections will be the 58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election when the country makes a historic decision that will serve a pivotal point in the history and the future of United States of America and the entire world. Most people are seeing the upcoming elections as an opportunity for the nation's population to elect a much needed strong and capable leadership that can guide US through the challenges it currently faces and steer the nation towards a more promising future.

The proposed "Trickle Up" economics solution, a part of Robinson's plan will cost shift many aspects of government dependence and societal improvements away from government and over to the private sector and the forces of free enterprise. He believes that being a third party candidate will provide him various strategic benefits such as providing a better position to act as moderator and to break the current impasse between political parties.

Robinson ran in the Libertarian primary in California and engaged in a brief interview with The Hollywood Reporter--

I'm a businessman and the originator of "birth-loop economics" (using bank interest to fund accounts for all newborns).

What is the first thing you’d do as president?
Oh, lord. I’d ask every congressman and senator for the best idea they had or have heard since they were first elected.

What is your campaign song?
"Make America As Great As It Was Meant to Be." (That’s a made-up song I know.)

What would you tell Donald Trump in an elevator?
"You need an economic plan."

Who is your favorite president and why?
Ronald Reagan. He did his part to make America smaller.

Oddly, the California primary was held after the Libertarian Party convention, so Robinson's 8th out of 12 finish with 0.03% was merely a popularity contest.

Both Sterling and Robinson failed to gain much traction in their quest for the Libertarian nomination. At some point they joined forces and continued the campaign to the general election on their own ticket. Sterling had been one of the speakers with Robinson at a Birth Loop conference in May 2016.

Sterling/Robinson were registered as write-ins in 5 states (listing themselves as Libertarians in most of them) and received a single reported vote in Kansas.

Robinson ran for President again as an Independent in 2020.

The campaign:

Before there was the American Solidarity Party perennial Independent Presidential Joe Schriner of Ohio had been incorporating the concept of Catholic Social Teaching into his political platform ever since his first run in 2000. Billing himself as "Average Joe" and "Joe the Painter," he journeyed across America with his family in a recreational vehicle that was essentially a campaign billboard on wheels.

He filed with the FEC for his 5th run on Oct. 8, 2015. His running-mate was another Joe, Joe Moreaux of North Hills, Calif.

On Facebook Schriner posted what was basically a help-wanted ad, Aug. 16, 2016--

HELP WANTED:  Independent presidential candidate urgently seeking vice-presidential candidate of like mind.  Criteria: 35 or older; natural born citizen; have lived in the U.S. at least 14 years; reside in a state other than Ohio (where I'm at).  Note: My platform (across the board) matches up with Catholic teaching.  www.voteforjoe.com  Message me, or contact me through our website.

Schriner actually had several responses. On Aug. 25 on his campaign website he announced the selection of Moreaux as his VP--

Our vice-presidential candidate for 2016 is Southern California’s Joe Moreaux.  Our platform spins primarily around the principles of Catholic teaching and Joe is a veritable walking dictionary (or, okay, Google) when it comes to Catholic teaching.

What’s more, and even more important, he lives his faith.

For instance, he and his wife Carolanne have been married since 2004.  And they consecrated their marriage “… to Jesus through Mary via a method suggested by St. Louis de Montfort.”

When I heard that, the vetting process stopped and I simply said:  “You’re hired!”

Joe, whose heritage includes a Hispanic, French, German and Native American mix (covers most of the voting populace), is originally from the San Fernando Valley.  He said his heroes growing up were not, first and foremost, Dodgers players (although he is a fan); but rather his main heroes were:  “Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II.”

And as coincidence would have it, his favorite band featured John, Paul… George and Ringo (aka The Beatles).  Besides being a manager with a firm that does flood restoration work – I would have sent Joe to Louisiana for the recent tragedy – he plays drums for a local band at night and on the weekends.

We figured this would save on money for a band at the Inaugural Balls.

Joe’s main issues:

He wants to tackle ending world-wide poverty, hunger, lack of clean drinking water.  What’s more, he and his wife have been involved with a street ministry to the homeless for years in California.

Joe also wants to see a dramatic increase in Restorative Justice in our prison systems, where inmates are rehabilitated on every level possible.

“We need to find the bridge between the entire “…lives matter” movements.  Seeing the plight of many inmates and the persecution of the poor and minorities breaks my heart,” said Joe.

He also believes “unborn lives” matter and he is adamantly opposed to abortion, which he sees as a “genocide.”  Joe also carries a “Consistent Life Ethic,” that sets him against the death penalty, euthanasia and unjust war.

Joe is also “pro-environment,” with an exponent.  

“My wife and I live a vow of simplicity and try to do our part to conserve water, recycle, eat organic, and be good stewards of the green and blue earth God gave us,” said Joe.

He added that he has both the Benedict medal and Jerusalem Cross tattooed on himself (this should help with the Millennial vote).  And he studies the Bible and Catholic Catechism daily.

He added that he decided to sign on with the campaign because:  “Joe Schriner has a broad vision rooted in common sense and wisdom, which appeals to the deep desires of the hearts of families and individuals, both nationally and globally.  America does not need a revolution… she needs a reawakening!”

Oh, and besides all of this, we thought, well:  “Joe & Joe” would be easy to remember and all.

Note:  Joe’s wife Carolanne also grew up in the San Fernando Valley and Joe and Carolanne met through a church music ministry.  (Carolanne has a great voice and will be singing the National Anthem at the Inauguration.)  Growing up, Carolanne was a gymnast, did karate, played soccer…  She also was involved with youth ministry that included outreach to the homeless.

We’re actually thinking about changing the national symbol from an eagle to, well, a cat – just for Carolanne!  LOL.

The first was Michael Smith of Plymouth Meeting, Penn. who filed with the FEC on Oct. 8, 2015. The second, and the one being covered in this profile, was Michael Lynn Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo. who filed on Mar. 31, 2016. His running-mate was Daniel L. White of Plano, Tex.

Their platform was an interesting combination of Protestant Right of center views sprinkled with some social justice concerns normally claimed as the exclusive property of the Left. Their foreign policy was very much in the philosophy of Neocon Republicans. Smith's campaign website included the following--

Hailing from the hardcore Puritan wing of the Libertarian Party, Alabama-raised Darryl Perry relocated to Keene, N.H. possibly due to the lure of the Free State Project, a long-term plan to populate the small jurisdiction with enough libertarian-minded voters to create a significant impact in municipal and state government.

In addition to being active with the Libertarian Party, Perry had also been involved with the ill-fated Boston Tea Party and was a co-founder in 2012 of the New Hampshire Liberty Party, described by some sources as a secessionist group.

In 2016 Perry was one of the contenders for the Libertarian Party nomination for President. Expressing disappointment with the eventual winners, he announced on Sept. 16, 2016 that he was running on his own--

Darryl W. Perry Announces Limited Presidential Write-In Campaign

Keene, NH – Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate, Darryl W. Perry, announced today his intention to launch a limited write-in campaign for the 2016 US Presidential Race.

When radio personality, libertarian activist, and CEO of Liberty Lobby LLC, Darryl W. Perry, embarked on his Presidential Campaign, he did so with three goals in mind: 1) to run the most libertarian presidential campaign in history; 2) to proclaim the ideas of liberty as boldly and as often as possible; and 3) to give as many people as possible the opportunity to vote for an actual libertarian in November.

After the 2016 Libertarian Party National Convention in Orlando, Florida, Perry issued a statement saying he had “accomplished two-thirds of the goals I set for my campaign. I ran the most consistent libertarian campaign to date, and I took every opportunity, including my well-received Concession Speech, to promote the ideas of liberty.”

Perry, who was officially endorsed by the NH Liberty Party at their convention in February, added, “While my original intention was to either continue my campaign through the November election or support an LP ticket with actual philosophical libertarians, the Libertarian National Convention left me emotionally drained. I will not be continuing my campaign through November.”

Since then, numerous people have asked for a way to give people the ability to vote for a philosophical libertarian for President. Due to the numerous instances of the Libertarian Party Presidential ticket running in opposition to the LP Platform, including supporting limitations of the 2nd Amendment rights of people on secret lists, new forms of taxation, and statements against freedom of association, Perry decided to file declarations of intent to be a write-in candidate in a handful of states where a slate of electors is not required. The laws in another eight states claim all write-in votes are valid. Meaning that on November 8, 2016, voters in 17 states (AL, AK, DE, IA, ID, KS, MT, NE, NH, NJ, OR, PA, RI, VT, WA, WV, WY) plus DC, will have the ability to cast a vote – albeit a write-in – for an actual libertarian, Darryl W. Perry. This means Perry potentially has access to 114 Electoral College votes.

Between now and election day, Darryl’s focus will remain at the state and local level where more opportunities exist to affect positive change. In addition, the Darryl W. Perry Presidential Campaign does not intend to raise any funds or have any expenditures towards this limited write-in campaign. Perry says, “I do not make this decision lightly, however I have the ability to not let another election cycle go by without a philosophical libertarian candidate in the general election. Finally, I encourage everyone, including members of the Libertarian Party, to follow their conscience when they cast their ballot in the Presidential election.”

Perry's platform was classic Libertarian except perhaps that instead of limiting the federal government he called for it to be "abolished." His platform introductory summary as presented on his campaign website--

I believe…
…that all coercive forms of taxation should be eliminated, and government programs should be funded voluntarily.
…that people should be allowed to travel freely without government interference; this includes the right of individuals to choose where they decide to live.
…in the right of self-determination; that is the right of “determination by the people of a territorial unit of their own future political status.”
…that every person and/or group of people should be allowed to decide for themselves if and/or how they will be governed.
…that men do not need leaders, we are all capable of leading ourselves. Governments only get in the way of allowing this to happen.
…that the United States government, as it exists today, should be abolished!

On the last point the actual platform elaborated--

 Governments should be transparent and free of corruption. I believe the Downsize DC Agenda is one methods for bringing about this reform.
 Further, all individuals have the god-given right to life, liberty & pursuit of happiness, whenever governments become destructive of these rights, the people have the right to alter or abolish it. The federal government has been destroying rights since 1791, therefore I believe that the federal government should be abolished!

...  I fully support the right of self-determination; that is the right of “determination by the people of a territorial unit of their own future political status.” Though there are no established guidelines regarding how a group of people exercise their right of self-determination. During the 1860’s several States attempted to leave the United States of America, several counties in these States took secession one step further and seceded from their seceding State. It was this act of self-determination that allowed West Virginia to become a State, it also led to several “Free State’s” throughout the Confederacy.

 The United States of America was founded on the principles of self-determination. Not only has the U.S. government violated the self-determination rights of the Native Americans, but also the people of Hawai’i, Guam, Puerto Rico and many other people who have become dependent on the U.S. government. I believe that every person and/or group of people should be allowed to decide for themselves if and/or how they will be governed.

In the course of the campaign Perry was elected to the position of chair of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party, which put the New Hampshire Liberty Party on the back burner-- not exactly inactive and waiting to be fully revived depending on the political winds.

Perry's running-mate and fellow activist Conan Salada, also seems to have moved to Keene from the South as part of the Free State Project, which conjures an image of carpetbaggers in reverse. Salada wasted no time in running for public office, oddly under the banner of the Democratic Party for the Legislature. He addressed the party affiliation on July 29, 2016--

I’m pleased to announce that I am running for NH State Rep, Cheshire county district 7, Keene ward 4. Some of you may be wondering why I am running as a Democrat as opposed to a party more aligned with my ideology. This is because of the difficulty getting 3rd party candidates on the ballot. No, I’m not trying to hijack the Democratic Party. Perhaps one year I’ll find the extra time to collect 150 signatures and run on a liberty party ticket, or maybe, if elected, I’ll have the much needed opportunity to tweak NH’s ballot access laws which currently favors the monopoly held by the D’s and the R’s.

Perry/Salada were registered write-ins in at least 8 states but not all of these report their write-in vote tallies in detail. In the event of their victory there would have existed a potential problem regarding the Constitution since both candidates were residents of the same state.

On a Feb. 8, 2018 Facebook post, the New Hampshire Liberty Party stated--

We're still in hibernation - watching the LP of NH's potential board changes at this upcoming convention of theirs.  If things make a turn for the worse there, look for us to come back.  Meanwhile, the LP of NH has been doing great, so hopefully that will continue.

The campaign:

David Librace had run for President in 2012, apparently without a running-mate. At that time he lived in Florida. He filed with the FEC as an Independent for the 2016 election on June 30, 2015 with an address in West Helena, Ark.

Librace, who seems to be a conspiracy enthusiast of a litigious nature, made the news in early 2016 for introducing a lawsuit claiming Republican Presidential aspirants Sen. Cruz and Sen. Rubio were both Constitutionally ineligible to attain the Presidency due to circumstances of their birth. In a U.S. District Court in Arkansas Librace claimed his "right to vote will be diluted, debased, and desecrated by the presence of Mr. Rubio and Mr. Cruz on the Arkansas ballot." Since Cruz was born in Canada but one of his parents was a US citizen and Rubio was born in Florida to immigrant parents the case went nowhere.

In the course of reporting the proceedings, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette added, "In his response to the suit, [Arkansas Secretary of State] Martin said that Librace is actually a convicted felon from Florida whose real name is Roy Allen Cole and that Cole is ineligible to file suit on behalf of Arkansas voters. Martin also wrote that he believes there to be numerous inaccuracies in Librace's (or Cole's) argument."

On Aug. 20, 2013 Librace made an appeal on Facebook for a running-mate, "Who would like to be as Vice-President on my ticket? Would love to hear from you." On Sept. 21, 2016 Librace announced the selection of Florida resident David Friedeberg as his VP, who apparently was also his partner. On some social media venues it is difficult to ascertain which David is actually doing the writing.

Librace was a registered write-in in at least half a dozen states but no votes were reported.

In July 2019 Librace filed with the FEC as an Independent for President but changed his party to Republican in Aug. 2019.

The Olkowski/Olkowski ticket were registered as write-ins in at least half a dozen states but no votes were reported. Since they were both residents of Michigan, the Olkowski brothers might have had a potential Constitutional barrier to assuming office in the event of their victory.

The campaign:

2016 was not the first election where James Creighton Mitchell ran for President. In 2008, when he lived in Lindenhurst, Ill. he was considered by the FEC to be a declared candidate for the Republican nomination. In Mar. 2015, this time from a Lake Villa, Ill. address, Mitchel filed with the FEC again.

His campaign webpage revealed a conservative Christian political platform, and interpreting the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution through that prism.

On other issues his stance included--
--"I stand unequivocally – politically, financially, militarily and socially with Israel. I believe the United States should not be offering any ideas to Israel or the United Nations on how Israel should interact with the Palestinians unless, asked. I also stand with any ally that shares our values in combating this international violence, persecution and hatred in the name of Allah."
--"I believe the modern militia is a licensed concealed carry American citizen, ready at all times to protect themselves or family and intervene in the assistance of others under attack by deadly force until sufficient law enforcement resources arrive and stabilize the attack incident. The concealed carry American embodies the value and importance of the 2nd Amendment."
--"A lot of our domestic problems involve our tax code and enforcement by the IRS. It is my belief that the 16th Amendment to the Constitution was NOT correctly implemented and therefore NOT valid. As President, I will provide the leadership and work with the entire Congress to remove the oppressive 16th Amendment and the IRS Department as we know it, and implement the Fair Tax proposal for a fairer policy to fund the Federal government."
--"We need a 100% draft into the military for a minimum of a two year active duty commitment because to remove potential recruits from gang recruitment."
--"We need to protect the life of conceived humans yet unborn thru their entire gestation."
--"All recipients for any kind of Federal aid need to pass drug free testing to maintain assistance and housing or be involved in voluntary rehabilitation programs to continue. Healthier lifestyles will be encouraged with reduced tobacco and alcohol consumption. These are life style choices that should not be provided with tax dollars. If an individual needs these, then public assistance obviously is not needed."
--"I also believe major reforms must be made in Mexico and further south, even if we have to take the lead and annex Mexico into United States so the laws will be uniform and uniformly enforced reducing or eliminating reasons for migration north."

He dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination on the last day of 2015. In a letter to the National Chair and the FEC Mitchell stated--

Please be advised that I am dropping out of the 2016 Republican Primaries for President of the United States, today.

As much as I have to offer in ideas and solutions to reunite America, improve its world image, reassert its global leadership and convince the American citizens that Republican philosophy is best for America, the cost of candidate access to the respective state primary ballots is insurmountable for the average American. It is the average American that the Republican Party is trying to convince and yet our voice is stifled by high financial barriers and censorship of ideas through contrived polling to support questionable debates of leadership ideas.

Electronic responses to weekly questionnaires to ALL candidates would have provided the American public a better snapshot of each candidate's responses to direction of action, ideas for solutions, etc. Narrative responses to selected questions would have provided some clarity of thought process.

I struggle with the thought since Dwight Eisenhower retired from office that the best and brightest from both political parties have run the American economy into the ground. It has been asserted that labor is the problem in America. The most politically connected with ideas from the respected think tanks, manipulated by lobbying from financial interests and individuals with social and economic peer standing from respected institutions of higher learning provide "spin speak" through the media has divided us as a nation into demographic sub-groups, pitting each against each other. This may be a great tactic for population manipulation but the effect is a devastating repudiation of our founding fathers' struggle which is our Constitutional heritage.

The hourly worker does not vote on any legislation at either the state or federal level, we just pay for it again and again with fewer dollars from shrinking pay checks. We now live in a police state - local, state and federal units of government and agencies routinely deny access to public information including wrong doing, private third party prison systems, human trafficking with the refugee and resettlement programs, welfare manipulation, etc., etc..

James Creighton Mitchell, Jr.

According to his campaign webpage, he continued to run for President as an Independent. But oddly, there is no mention in his online source that he was also the running-mate of Marshall Schoenke.

Described by one reporter as a "former carpenter and now spiritual musician and songwriter," Schoenke had a also been campaigning for President. Somehow Mitchell became his running-mate, but the VP appeared to have been running his own parallel attempt for the Presidency as well if his online efforts at the time were any indication. This odd arrangement occasionally is seen throughout third party history.

The earliest mention of a Schoenke/Mitchell ticket I can find is in Aug. 2016. Since these two lived near each other and shared certain religious concerns it should not be surprising they connected politically. In the event of their victory their shared residence in the same state would have posed a potential Constitutional problem.

Write-ins in at least 20 states, nearly half of their reported 59 votes came from Illinois.

The campaign (2016):

Ajay Sood of Shawnee, Kan. appears to be a perennial candidate who runs for offices from City Council to the Presidency on a continuous basis. On Mar. 31, 2016 he filed with the FEC as an Independent for President.

Sood had been at it for some time before his FEC filing, having organized a GoFundMe page for his campaign on Apr. 3, 2015.

Ajay Sood was born to a middle-class family in New Delhi with Dad working for the American embassy, the United Nations has a diplomatic driver for the US dignitaries. I’m a Mentor to many teens in the area and teach Henna to school kids every summer. Ajay was an artist with Lyric Opera  House for nine years. I was an Actor in one of the plays an Egyptian Love story (AIDA) at the Kaufman Center 6 years ago. I am not a Legal advisor nor a lawyer, but whenever I have been involved in a case as an interpreter or a coordinator or as a side consultant with any of my clients up to the federal Level my clients have never lost a case in the Justice System. Consulting to a few businesses Marketing Groups and a consultant to a few Indian restaurants doing training the staff for food handling, licensing requirements and planning the marketing strategies for the development of multiple locations. A New Life Journey

One LENT DAY of March 2015, the most sacred month of Christians, Ajay Sood gets a call from Jesus saying my Son Ajay Sood are you ready for a new assignment in your life.  I said yes your highness, I could not decide the right words to say, I was mumbling. I thought some kind of a Metroid had fallen over my head like a light of the Universe, asking me to take command. Echo, command, and LOVE were in the voice. Ajay Sood being a LOVE GURU turned out to be a politician with LOVE, COMPASSION, The WARRIOR, and LEADER with the armor of Jesus in the name of love. Next morning I had filed my nomination to run for the US President as an Independent candidate 2016.

My Life journey began ………

Ajay Sood had to struggle throughout the campaign, financially, emotionally, spiritually. I did lose my house to foreclosure.

My own Indians accused me of being fraud, not knowing the law, at the Gurdwara eating langar,(FEAST) Ajay Sood became the TALK OF THE TOWN.

My haters always inspired me. Eighteen months of rigorous and treacherous activity standing in winter cold I poured my own Dollars and blood into this campaign. I am not there to win or lose no matter what. “I will be there for you”.  It is my life journey……. I will live it.

His Vice-Presidential running-mate Richard Mende lived in Kansas City, Mo. He was a vaishnava who was also known as His Grace Radha Madhava Prabhu. Mende's book The Torch was published during the campaign and was written in screenplay form. It included a biography of the author--

Richard Mende was born on November 5, 1934, in Albany, the capital of New York State. He finished high school locally. Then he went off to college and, after four years, earned a BA from Stanford University in California. He majored in political science. Like many wannabees, after college he left home and moved to Manhattan, New York, to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Richard was guided by the culture of his early days, which really hasn’t changed dramatically through the years. Richard finally became attracted to one of the traditions originating in India, which he incorporated in his own company, Rampart Productions. During his visit to India, he had the good fortune to personally meet HH the Dalai Lama, head of the Tibetan religion. The Chinese communists wanted to take over Tibet. They believed if they capture the Dalai Lama, the head of the Tibetan religion, the rest of Tibet would cease resistance. Finally, a major juncture came into Richard’s life. After studying a variety of religious traditions, Richard concluded that at the far end of almost all of them was the practice of the constant chanting of a divine name of the lord and writing.

His Grace Radha Madhav prabhu once prayed to God when he was enjoying his material life in New York— “Oh Lord, please help me stop destroying myself.” He received strength to discontinue smoking, drinking and meat-eating, he became vegetarian; then he realized that he was becoming ‘happy’. He read the Quran, Bible, Zen and then the Bhagavad Gita (cover to cover) and was deeply influenced, he went to the lower 22nd avenue ‘Hare Krishna temple’ and then to Brooklyn to stay for weekends. Thereafter, he attended classes on the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. He came to India and read Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Muktananda, Cidananda, Saibaba and studied various traditions; a common thing which he noticed was that all those sources ‘glorified’ the holy name of the Lord. Later, Radha Madhav prabhu was initiated by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (ISKCON Founder Acharya) in about 1970.

Sood earned 10 write-in votes in Kansas and 1 in Delaware. In the event of a Sood/Mende victory it is a valid question to ask if the Presidential candidate fulfilled the antiquated Constitutional requirement of having been born a U.S. citizen.

The campaign (2020):

Sood filed with the FEC as an Independent for President on Mar. 22, 2018. In between the 2016 and 2020 elections he had run for the Shawnee City Council, Shawnee Mayor, and US Congress.

Also in between the elections he also had some negative legal experiences regarding a traffic stop, his elderly father's care, and perhaps some dealing with a neighbor. On his Twitter for Mar. 18, 2018 he wrote--

I WILL STAND BY FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WRONGFULLY CHARGED IN THE AMERICAN COURT SYSTEM AND SPENDING TIME IN THE JAIL OR PRISON SYSTEM . I will fight for You. THE MOST MOTIVATING FACTOR TO RUN FOR THE US PRESIDENT FOR ME AJAY SOOD AS A INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE WAS THE WICKED COURT SYSTEM.

This time the ticket were registered write-ins in Alaska, Delaware, and Kansas with the candidate's home state reporting 4 votes. There are indications Sood will run for President in 2024.
